Absolutely they should. Cricket isn't footy. International players coming back to play domestic comps has happened in cricket for a long long time. Sixers had to have these players in their squad and salary cap.

Totally. Plus, the tournament needs the Aussie internationals coming back in whenever they are available.

Bird, Pope, Curran didn't bowl today for the Sixers. Would form a pretty good line-up for its own side.

In the end Sixers had no one who couldn't meaningfully contribute. While Stars had Maddinson, Dunk, Handscomb, Gotch whose form and/or ability I question strongly with the bat. Handscomb got disrupted yes but Short still hit some good runs.

Congrats Sixers, you were the best team of the BBL after you brought in Smith, Hazlewood and Lyon.

More Australian test players than any other BBL team but I'm sure that had nothing to do with your success in the finals series.

I heard Warner was going to play.

But he said no I'll play grade cricket give the the guys that have been playing a game.

Haze is on another level again.

Hilarious given that most seasons Stars fans do nothing but whinge about losing their best players to international duties.

Turns out Stars can’t even win when they don’t get selected.

This is surely the goal for all teams. Attendance, ratings, exposure and winning lifted by getting the Aussie stars back.

Don't blame them for wanting to rest at this time, but it's only enhance the league if they all played 3-4 games and then potentially finals.

So what you're saying is they played the majority of the season without 3 stars taking up reasonable cap room, yet still managed to put themselves in a position to win..

Good management if you ask me. Calculated risk to give list spots to 3 players you know are only going to be available late.

Great speech from Henriques.

"When Lyon came back into the team to replace Manenti and Smith replaced some other Sixers spud I can't remember we suddenly turned our form around"

"'Who would have predicted that Australian test players would improve our team? We took a punt on them and it paid off".

It was a gutsy gamble.

Stars in most circumstances should bat 1st but not in a rain affected game. They really should have chased this down no problem but awful awful batting cost them.
Most of the stars batsmen are only capable of accelerating after a period of getting their eye in. Ignoring Dunk and Maddinson for obvious form issues; none of Larkin, Handscomb or Gotch can hit big at the start of their innings. Stoinis and Maxwell can, but they’ve also played better cricket this BBL as a result of building their innings.

Chasing 10 an over in a 12 over match was always going to be a step too far for this stars lineup.

I'd say giving 3 high level spots out of 20 in a team sport of 11 is a risk. Means they run a real risk of Edwards x2, Fallins etc being given a run of games with injury, other guys on the cusp of selection (Abbott), international players potentially in and out

Good time to be a Sydney fan. Roosters finished their back to back, Sydney FC killing it and even the Sydney Kings have their shit together.

Sixers just joining the party!!!

they also effectively limited themselves to one overseas player to do it

On that note, I think the only real change on this front is a rethink on overseas players making their season debut in the finals. The situation the Scorchers found themselves in, having to play Morkel over Jordan for their sudden death match so that Morkel could play in the finals, was not good at all imo.
