None of our full time forwards get close. Elliott and JDG get those numbers because they run through the midfield.
Most small forwards don't get big numbers, I would like him to add more goals to his game if anything and that will come with hard work and persistance

They'll come if he adjusts his style a bit and more often looks to be the bloke who breaks with the footy. At the moment he's all obout creating space for his teammates. He's the only non ruckman who chooses to block and shepherd routinely, rather than peeling off to receive. Don't know if you'd want him to change his style though.

I love his work, but I do sorta agree, he needs to find a way to get more involved in the game with ball in hand for mine.

Paul Puopolo could be a decent comp for mine, he averaged 4 tackles, 13 touches and almost a goal a game. Probably spent a little more time in the midfield than Beau will, but if we could get the touches to double digits and a goal a game I think that’s the right output to pair with his tackles/pressure

He doesn't get to front and centre when a long ball comes in, he just needs to add that to his game and he'll be fine, I would rather him do that than try and block for the bigger forwards when the long ball comes in. It's not big of an adjustment to make to his game, it's called forward craft

Beau's contribution can't be assessed purely through his numbers even though they look fine for a "defensive" forward.

Maccaffer (sp?), Blair, J.Thomas, C.Brown... we've tried to man that position with all kinds of personnel. All had their strengths and weaknesses. Beau is already more powerful than those that have done the job before him.

Oppo defenders would feel the extra urgency to dispose when he's around.

He's the Yang to Ginni's Yin.

Together with Henry I look forward to those 3 forming a formidable nucleus in the forward line. They compliment each other very well.

P.S: He often chooses to do the team thing, this might change a little with time. We could very well see more individual acts from him as he grows into the position.

1 min left he tackled two blokes at once. Does that count as one tackle or two? 😉

How did that happen?

He didn’t get called for holding?

There were two footies on the ground at the time?

🤔

That's the only thing he needs to change and yes, it will come with time

I don’t understand why people are so invested in his disposal numbers. It’s what he does without the ball that makes him invaluable. He’s only a kid and already a great defensive forward that suits our game plan to a tee

Exactly. I hardly even check his disposal count at the end of the game. Even his tackle numbers can be misleading at times. Just have to watch the game and notice the chases and extra effort he puts in.

Because some games he doesn't do much defensively so he needs to be able to impact the game offensively.

All good players have a blend of offence and defence.

Indeed - for me there's a growing belief that he makes opposition defenders nervous and causes them to rush their disposals more than perhaps necessary.

This is an invaluable trait.

He’s a kid. Learning a new game plan. In his second season coming off injury. He’s going to have inconsistency. And anyone in his role has good and bad games. It’s not a high possession role. He’s got the right stuff. Very happy with him atm.

I think Fly said the same thing once. He doesnt care too much about stats, its everything else you do (if you are contributing to the team)

Beau’s last quarter on Sunday was immense. Watching the replay, he was heavily involved throughout, tackling, applying pressure.

It’s a physically demanding way to play and he struggles to do it every game, much less every quarter of every game, but he did it when needed on Sunday.

The forward combination of Henry silk, Ginni cheek and opportunism, and McCreery hustle is a beautiful thing.

The knockers haven’t got a clue.

This kid is already doing the hard stuff:
He’s physical
He has a burst of pace
He runs the correct patterns covers defensive exits and positions well at stoppages.
He’s a reliable kick for goal
His tackles and second efforts are terrific
He delivers implied pressure in spades.
He’s building a great on field understanding with Ginnivan and Henry.
Has he played 20 games yet?
In time, he will follow the path of Elliott and JDG and get midfield minutes.

He’s doing better than Callum Brown could dream of delivering.
At this stage of his career he’s out performing where Dane Swan (my favourite player) was by a mile.

Just play him.

He upped his tackle count and hit the scoreboard against Hawthorn. Hopefully he can keep that going.
