Would have been 8 if dopey Ladhams, Marshall and co actually was on the line shepherding. Charlie had run off to the bench after passing the ball to Robbie.

None of our guys inside the goal square looking to help the ball thru. We let Henry sit there by himself.

On line and about 1 foot short of perfection. A bloody under 10 error by our forwards.

Add 1 more to make it 7 times his goal and point has won the game, but there has been other games he has changed a game completely in one quarter There are a couple mentioned in this article.

While kicking five goals in a quarter against Adelaide and four in a (3rd) quarter against Fremantle (in an away Semi Final in 2014) in come-from-behind wins are noteworthy, it's his goal kicking in close matches that sets Gray apart.

Here's a look at four memorable goals across his 259-game career that have lifted Port Adelaide to victory.

Round seven, 2020 v Carlton
Round 19, 2017 v St Kilda
Round four, 2021 v Richmond
Round 23, 2021 v Western Bulldogs

Edit
Rd 1 2914 v Carlton Port won 18.12 v 12.15, but Port were down by a goal at 3/4 time and his two goals early in the last quarter put Port in front.

15 possessions, 2.2 goals (a third of our score), 4 marks, 8 score involvements and the winning score as a pure small forward on a day where conditions were a ****ing shambles. Write him off at your own peril while he wins us another game (although sadly a loss might have been better for the club).

Given he's slowed down I'd say the conditions were perfect for him. A dry day where his opponent can more easily run off him or close on him is where he's no longer as good.

Like against Carlton? No rain, 17 degrees.
  • 13 disposals, 3.1 goals, 6 score involvements, 3 marks (2 inside 50) and 3 tackles.

In 3.5 games he has kicked 6 goals at an average of 1.7 which is equal top with Todd.. I'm not sure how many of those games he played fully fit either.

I acknowledge he is slowing down. Yes as you get older you have to play injured more often, or simply miss more matches injured. However Marshall et. al. are not the only ones who benefit from playing in a more open, structured forward line. It helps Robbie to have time and space to work in instead of playing in a cluster**** of a forward line where the best option for the last couple of seasons is to rove at the ants nest under Dixon's feet.

Given they won 4 premierships to 0 over the course of his amazing career, I'm not sure it would be Geelong dreaming of what might have been :$

Imagine how many more they would have won! ;)

My brother inlaw sent me this Tiktok video link of Josh Daicos talking with Tom Mitchell, about when he was down and out in 2019 - his third year in the system and playing poorly in the VFL, thought about quitting, and he stayed up to 3am or 4 am watching highlights of Robbie Gray for inspiration to make it.
