knowing next to nothing about Bellchambers & assuming he will coming in to support Laycock in the ruck this week, has anyone been following his progress & have an opinion as to his ability?

Given that we are so low on numbers he may be selected this week. He is a big man and is a pretty good tap ruckman, but his weakness is his around the ground work. He isn't overly mobile and needs to build up his tank because he doesn't carry a lot of ground.
He played against the Hawks but got very limited gametime, mainly because of the reason's i stated.
Probably isn't ready for AFL level and needs a few big pre-seasons

I don't think at this stage of the season it can hurt. At the very least, he will see where he needs to be as a ruckman, and what he has to do to get there. Give him a taste.

Baby Bomber to lead rucks
By Catherine Murphy 9:32 AM Tue 19 August, 2008

ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights has confirmed that 18-year-old Tasmanian Tom Bellchambers will lead the Bombers' ruck division on Friday night against the Western Bulldogs, with both David Hille and Jason Laycock to miss the match.

Bellchambers has played one senior game for Essendon this season after being taken in the 2008 NAB AFL pre-season draft.

Hille will miss the rest of the season with a broken hand sustained against Adelaide on the weekend, while Laycock is suffering from a floating bone in the ankle.

Scans on Monday confirmed both Hille's injury and a broken fibula for luckless defender Courtenay Dempsey. Dustin Fletcher (groin) is also out of contention for the Bulldogs clash.

"Tom is quite a solidly-built young man, but he is a development player who is 18 years old, so he is going to get a chance to ruck against a really good ruckman in [Ben] Hudson," Knights said.

Midfielder Jason Johnson will definitely return to the senior team after a long-term calf injury, as will Mark McVeigh (hamstring) if he gets through training. Heath Hocking also looks likely to return having missed last weekend.

"We have got a few issues with injuries, but they are the cards you are dealt and the 22 that run out have really got to represent the club well on Friday night," Knights said.

"It's on a big stage against a good side so we have just got to wind them up to play good footy. We will potentially have to look at a few first-gamers, but we will take a look at them today and make a call."

I don't know why but for some reason I am laughing. Is it possible to find all this beyond bad luck? lol!

Think of the future. Just about all of our players have tasted senior football now, hopefully the benefits in the long run will far out weigh a season of laughable misfortune. I am surprised Knights or a member of the coaching staff has not injured themselves either.

yep all you can do is laugh, its quite comical. no point worrying about it anymore. :)
Yeah I think thats what it is. When I got up I looked at the AFL website and I was laughing for ages, I didn't know why, that must be it :p

how does he measure up to Hille, Laycock and Ryder in the ruck? Hille being 9/10, Laycock 5.5/10 and Ryder 5/10.
3.5/10

Paddy never runs out of gas :D:thumbsu:
Bellchambers is 200cm (unless he has grown since I read that)
Warnock is the one thats 206cm.

Just heard on Ten news that Laycock is gone for the season as well because of an ankle injury that has been troubling him for some time. Now this is funny!:D

It's official. Trade Lazycok Dons..! Get a round 3 or thereabouts pick and head into next year with some more youth that have potential to be superstars, 'cause this guy has no hope of becoming elite. Maybe get a White/Brogan type during the off-season for a ready made second ruckman so we can develop Bellchambers properly in the VFL for another season or two, then he should be able to lift his weight in the AFL.
