Forget about being captain. Like a BB contestant, I hope you enjoyed your 15 mins of fame.

Even Rohan Connolly had a go http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2005/07/02/1119724847348.html

"That indirectness, which stands out so alarmingly when the Swans falter, was there in all its, at times, comic ugliness for most of yesterday, acting captain Ben Mathews' silly sideways chip to Ryan O'Keefe early in the final term when his team already had a goal on the board and all the momentum, merely one, albeit memorable, example."

ranked 40th best player on the ground at half time. enough said......

After all the guys have had a go I think it will be out of Jude and Bazza.

Can't see any compelling reason to choose anyone else. Leo would be more a hope if he didn't play full back most weeks.

Mathews was given his chance and didn't seem to step up. In fact, this week was probably his worst game for the year!

"And perhaps both sides should take a look at how ladder leader West Coast ruthlessly crushed an attempted Carlton rebellion in Perth later yesterday afternoon, and realise just how far both of them have to go."

So true!

Ben Matthews = terrible

He runs around like a cardboard cut-out.....

Lost the game earlier for us by refusing to man up on Krakouer, his dropped mark on the outer half-back line, indirect disposal (as per f***en usual) and lack of vision (not once, but constantly). You name it, he does it.

It makes me wonder sometimes that there is such a fine line between AFL footballers and local/country league footballers occasionally, with the difference being as much as luck as anything. These lucky AFL players sometimes take years to weed out of a club because there defficiencies are hidden by great players making them look good, increased fitness and slightly better ability through full-time training & repitition respectively and tagging qualities to the team. Matthews is one of these players - maybe a good ordinary local/country player BUT a terribly ordinary AFL player....

"Ball-up" Benny Matthews has been replaced by Nic "Champion....." Fosdike in my eyes as number one abuser of players in your team !!

What about Kirky? He'll be right up there with Bazza and B1.

Get real, Ben Matthews will not get captain. It's actually pretty hard to say who will. Sometimes I think Barry Hall, but then Kirk is close. But having said that, Jude and Goodes look lucky too.

It was such a waste of time appointing him captain. Just a plodder. Nothing more, nothing less. We need a superstar captain.

It was a stupid time to put him Captain too.

1st game v Pies needed a publicity injection. Why not Brownlow medalist, Goodes?

2nd game v Richmond an 8 point game. Why not someone who can inspire the team?

This decision could have cost us big time.

Here's a tough one for you.

Pick the odd player out from this list.

Bob Skilton
Peter Bedford
Ricky Quade
Barry Round
Dennis Carroll
Paul Kelly
Stuart Maxfield

Come on! Would you have preferred:

1. Collingwood (H), Richmond (A) OR
2. Geelong (H), Melbourne (A) OR
3. West Coast (H), Adelaide (A)?

I think it was the best decision they could make. And we came out 50/50, which is how everyone feels about Benny anyway.

I'd say that Roos wanted Goodes to captain in his 200th game (this week) so I expect to see him named as the next to get his turn.

But I agree - the AFL site had a banner last week with the four captains playing that week. Nathan Buckley, James Hird, Nick Riewoldt... and Ben Mathews.
