Wasn't sold on him when he first started his career in the forward line, however last year playing back in the VFL and this year his performance in the seniors has me excited.

Will be a multiple AA player before his career is done.

Looking at the 2006 draft again, just how good was it. So many players who are starting to show star quality. Let's just hope Reid can continue to develop like he is (and N Brown can find some form and consistency in the 1s).

Gibbs, Boak, Selwood, Reid, Frawley, J Riewaldt, Urquhart, Dawes, Petterd, Tippett, Davey, Hawkins, Dick, Gray, Hill...I don't even know if I've picked the best of that draft. Soooo much talent.

GWS and GC in a few years. Eep.

Definitley still developing, just in last couple of games has started to be a reliable and classy defender. As he develops further he should become much more versatile, with his pace and agility will probably be able to play almost anywhere including midfield and forward. Potential to become the perfect replacement for Leroy except for Leroy's sheer gorilla factor.

Starting too Look like a Future Superstar at CHB. Could even be this Year Rising Star Winner.

Just Hope he Does not Leave for the GC who I have Heard are Very Intrested

usually in the off-season me and my mates will usually talk about how clubs will do the following year and certain players that will 'break-out'

after watching the vfl finals last year i garenteed my mates that ben reid will be an all australian CHB within 3 years. they all laughed at me. hes looking good isnt he :D

Reid is going nowhere after four years of toiling in the reserves and finally holding down a key position in the seniors. Plus the Pies premiership window is wide open for the next few years, something which can't be said about GC or GWS.

Absolutely loved it when Reid monstered Kosi to take a contested mark :D

Is proof that when judging a young footballer you should look at the skills they have on offer over the overall performance. Reid was rubbished by a large number of supporters on this board early days when it was clear as day the kid had what it takes. People are saying his form came from no where but that is not true at all. He has always been a player with great courage and contested marking ability, great height and great speed for his height. His kicking has improved a fair bit and he is now playing in defence but I think when you have his height, football smarts, speed and marking ability there is very little room for failure.

His Kicking Early on was Terrible and Has really come on last 2 Seasons.

Getting Better Core Strength?

Goal kicking is a different skill to field kicking. The horrible set shot was probably beyond his range and he did a host of things wrong and since then he was labelled a "horrible" kick which is, was and always will be untrue. His kicking being terrible is a myth. His field kicking has always been neat and is now close to elite. He didn't go from being rubbish to drilling flat low bullet 60 meter passes it just doesn't and didn't happen that way.

Then he was Played out of Position up Forward Then?

Yeh I have no idea how my post even slightly alluded to him being played out of position as a foward. In fact I mentioned that he played very well as a foward. I would certainly not be against him going foward again. His pace of the mark, height, sticky hands and ability to take a contested pack mark, reading of the incoming ball and long kick means that he has all the weapons to be a star foward. He has settled back at the moment and is needed there more and I think it is certainly worth keeping him their while his confidence is up and he is finding his feet at AFL level, I wouldn't write him off going foward in the future. There are many KPP's who have played both ends of the ground successfully at AFL level, generally a good foward is more value then in defence but it is often timing and need that decides where a guy ends up.

I'm now starting to think Reid can actually be better than Gilbert.

Better contested mark - debatable
Better reader of the play - possible
Better at ground level - no
Better at breaking lines - no
Better, more reliable kick - yes
Better at playing on an opponent - yes

I'm genuinely excited, because it wouldn't surprise me if Gilbert gets

I also think Reid is a genuine chance of getting top 3 in Rising Star if you remember Martin is ineligible. Hanneberry, Rockliff and not much else.
