He will be given every opportunity to make CHB his own.

Last night he showed some impressive signs.

If he can hold down CHB and Rambo FB our future is very bright.

Did a Descent Job looked better in Defense then he does up Forward.

Those I thought he lost his Feeting a few times and fell over

but

His kicking was a lot better

Yeah he did lose his feet once or twice but he was definitely better last night. It will take him some time to get used to his new bigger frame.

I liked him in the backline. He did a couple of nice things and his commitment at the ball was pretty good. Unfortunately the best example of this resulted in Leigh Brown taking him down.

His skills were good and he looked more at home than I have seen him. He needs more time and I think he will play some games for us down back this year although he will be behind Presti (who looked very good) and Nate Brown.

Will be a match-up selection but think he will be given every opportunity.

Those his legs still look skinny but his Upper-Body has got bigger

Ben Reid i believe is the X-Factor in our side for 2009! The quality of his disposel around the ground is pretty good, he didnt get a lot of it but when he did he used it!!! Thats more important than getting 30 touches!!!!

Lets not forget when he was drafted, he was the youngest player in the entire draft, he will need some time to develop!!!

Thought he was good but he didn't really have many one on one's against a big forward. With Presti and Brown ahead of him he may still get thrown forward but i think he could become a good CHB. His field kicking has always been good its his shots at goal that were no good.

But yes he is still young and we could still make him either a forward or defender. We should play him at CHB all NAB cup preseason and see how he goes.

I thought our general structure was good last night as Leigh and Bucks commented on. There were Collingwood players waiting outside WC's forward 50 for rushed kicks out of defence.

I also got the sense that our back-men were encouraged to play more attacking roles in defence. The evidence of that was Presti's run, Harry's line breaking (although thats not new), Woods mark in defence and Reids positioning. I didn't see too many close one on ones down back, so maybe Reid will be expected to use his athleticism not simply to shadow a forward but to read the play better and beat the forwards to a contest and run off.

Considering how dodgy Presti's body is i can see Reid asserting himself at CBF and becoming a premier defender.

Everyone is mentioning his kicking last night, yet every game ive seen him play in the black and white ive always noticed that his kicking in general play has always been excellent, it was only his goal kicking that let him down

Anyway to all his doubters, i think he will prove them wrong this year, the future is looking bright!!!!!!

he will be a good player. i think he will become a key in our defence in the next decade, however i dont see a spot for him this year. i really beleive they should develop him as a defender in the VFL and maybe a few in AFL and when presti decides to leave they should give him his go. Presti was super impressive last night and Rambo will be the envy of all teams at FB. Plus obrien and maxwell (also impressive) are able to play on 3rd talls as well as smalls. and don't forget about shaw aswell. no room for him at the moment but i liked what i saw.

He impressed me at 12:15 (left) in the 2nd quarter, led McKinley to the ball and shepherded him for an opponent. Granted, McKinley is a little shorter than Benny, but he was WCE's leading goal kicker last year and can play. Benny had great positioning relative to his opponent, used his body well as McKinley couldn't get around him, and used good decision making to shepherd for a teammate to gather up the ball.

Just one example of a contested situation from the night, not that there were many as you say.

do all the people saying trade reid or brown for judd realise why we kept them now?

i know they havent done a lot yet and obviously may never get near what judds achieved, but the potential in both is massive and is what our team needs in the long term.

FB Brown
CHB Reid

CHF Cloke
FF Dawes

whilst those guys may not be the best in those positions atm, barring cloke. The future looks awesome with those four hopefully playin for the pies for a long time.

Was really impressed with the size of browny and reid.

Yeah as you say there weren't many opportunities to see how he went one-out against an opponent so hopefully he gets some more opportunities in the next couple of games to see how he goes.

As I said earlier I think he is still behind Presti and N Brown but would be good to have matched up on Jack Riewoldt or Cleve Hughes for Richmond or Murphy or even Tarrant for Freo in the next round.

I thought his ability to play on a tall such as Kennedy on the weekend allowed us the luxury of having Harry play on and demolish McKinley. It also allowed Harry to be a bit more offensive.

I can see it both ways.

Getting Judd would of made our Midfield very good but Our off-season would of been really different because we would of really needed a good Tall Defender because all we would of had was an Old Presti so We would of Traded for a Tall Defender or Drafted a Tall Defender someone like. Tom Lynch,Jordan Lisle or Jayden Post. Instead of going Mids early with Steele and Beams.

Or

as it is now N Brown is just about the best young Tall Defender and Reid looks promising as well in Defense

The most encouraging thing Reid showed was when it hit the deck he was mobile and made good decisions. Interested to see how he goes under pressure when tested one on one now.

I think you will find we would have had no Wood either as the preposed trades involved Ried Brown and our first rounder.

Their are a few other things that have to be looked at like salary cap, team morale etc. The fact of the matter IMO 3 very good players beats one marque superstar no matter how good. We made a choice to back our drafting and go for the future rather then risk undoing all our good work and pinning it on one player.

As sampler said on the limited evidence avalible he was good one on one on saturday. I think he will suprise many people who thought he was a Rusling / Tarrant type out run the defender type player. He is actually pretty good in the air one on one and so long as his not getting ragged dolled or getting into one on one wrestles with stronger foward I am confident.

True we would of not good Wood, So we also would of had to Trade/Draft for a Ruckman like in 07 Draft we could of got Dawson Simpson or this Off-Season we would of been in the Warnock Trade Talk or we would of Drafted a Ruckman like Roughead/Z Clarke or Jarrad Redden

That creates a flow on affect. Who would we have not drafted / rookied or delisted. Who would we have missed out on. How long would any of those ruckmen take to be ready considering we have announced we are going for the flag now could we have afforded to be doing it with a ruckmen who was clearly not ready as opposed to Wood who is borderline.

Again 3 or so good to very good player are of more value then one regardless of how good that player is. I agree we are short of a player of Judd's calibre and the addition would take us to a real flag threat but it wouldn't if it came at the expense of the spine. Also take into account ruck and kpp's take longer to develop and be AFL ready so we where always going to be more likely to find a good midfielder to fill the midfield whole to be ready in time for our tilt then we were to find a kpp or ruck.
