Just thought i would ask why nobody on this forum rates Ben Ross from Gippsland Power? I havent yet seen his name in a phantom draft? It might just be me that is a bad judge but i am quite certain he will get drafted and probably top 50? Can someone with a sound knowledge of him tell me why he is not rated at all with:
- Key Vic country rep 06
- Draft Camp appearance
- TAC team of year

Only thing i can think of is he had an injury interupted year missing 7 matches, and slipping under manys radars. Played the nationals underdone as it was first game back i think.

Just some opinions please and reasoning. Thanks guys.

yeah i rate him also. i believe he will be a top 50 pick. some clubs must rate him to be invited to draft camp. i am suprised he isnt appearing in any phantom drafts. i think he will be one that will suprise quite a few on this forum.

I picked him up in the trial phantom draft we did a while ago and was surprised he lasted as long as he did. My biggest concern about him is that he seems to drift in and out of games, and go missing for longish periods. No doubting his talent, and I rate him in my top 50. I would still imagine he's talented enough to get at least rookie listed.

Ross played the championships with a quad injury that he carried for the previous month. My mail even so was that he was very very unlucky to miss All Australian. No doubt he is flying under the radar on this forum, but not with the seven clubs that interviewed him at the draft Camp. Was not missed by too many TAC coaches this year as he was heavily tagged as a wingman in most games. Hyde tagged him with Caruso against the Cannons. He will go second round.

Abosolutely.

yes i agree with you macca. he has the tendency to drift in and out of a game, but i dont believe that is so much due to his attributes as a player but more his fitness this year due to the quad injury he suffered that downtowner mentioned.

i agree downtowner 2nd or 3rd round for mine!

i believe that he is a real chance to get drafted. He reminds me of a young Gary Ablett Jnr. I feel that his only downfall is his height, i think that hes only about 177 cm tall. He lacks pace. However, his attack on the football and ability to break out of attack overrides all that in my opinion. Good chance for pickup between 30 and 50.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Lacks pace ??? 2.94 at the camp put him 5th overall over 20m. 12th in the shuttle sprint. Played the whole season as a 17 yo. Third in Power B&F close up after missing 7 games. Led by 7 votes before his injury. Measurements at camp show he has grown 4CMs this season, now 180cms.
Macaffer a chance, great hands and quite mobile. Not a KPP in the AFL but has the potential to make it. Liken his style to Williams at Hawthorn.

must be quicker than i thought. He doesn't look that quick however, comparing to others in this draft that play similar position. Remember that as a small forward / midfielder you really need to be exceptionally quick. Growing to 180 cm is extreemly good for him, my rating of him has risen massively. I hope geelong pick him up at 25, if not him then Allwyn Davey

Really, thats interesting. They may just pick him up you know. Imagine chapman, ablett and ross rotating forward and midfield.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

i think it was kangaroos, essendon, geelong, st kilda, port adelaide and sydney? but i am not 100% sure.. is that right downtowner? i dont no the 7th

Not quick? on the football field i believe his 2.94 doesnt show how fast he really is, he runs away from people bouncing it at same time.

when i said not that quick i meant for the position he plays, in relation to others in this draft that play similar position. For his size he needs to be exceptionally quick and that he is not. I also said that his hardness and attack on the footy overide this. Meaning, he is an excellent drafting prospect and should be picked up. Meaning, others that play this position are faster however are generally alittle soft and play off their men. Something that Ross does not do, that is why i like him as a player

Cheers mate, thanx a lot:thumbsu:

I've got WC picking him up on EFH's drafting competition. I haven't heard anything to say we'll get him, but I'm quite positive we'll be looking for some depth up forward with Sampi and Adkins both looking very unlikely.

surprised saintly newby hasnt had their word yet...or is that u downtoner..with a new identity
Why is that difc? Football is not the be all and end all of my life. However, now that I'm here, my opinion on Ben Ross is that whilst he's good, he gets tagged out of games way too easily and also goes missing for long periods. Can be flashy at times and also have some good games but not consistant enough for mine. I read in another forum the he is "the poor man's Dale Thomas" and I kind of agree with that.
