If they're attempting to encourage a player to leave their club and join Richmond, who isn't Rutten, I don't think it would go down well with that player if they ask him to wait just in case another player came on the market before signing.
Essendon did the same thing to us last year. We signed up Ackland and all of a sudden Mal Michaels came onto the market. It wasn't a coincidence.

I'm sure they will but if he waits until Richmond have picked up someone else and then announces his intention to leave he could come to Carlton.
But regardless its all very unlikely.
Don't worry about our salary cap situation. Judd's getting $800,000 a year under the cap and before we picked him up we had about $1,400,000 freed up (Whitnall, Lappin and Kouta going). We could probably offer $400,000 a year.

Havent heard much about Ruttens contract. Its been a non issue here. Its considered almost routine that he will resign, as there are no stories circulating about his being disgruntled or holding out on contracts. Maybe they wanted to see who they were delisting/trading for, to see exactly how much they could give him.
