Big Sports Breakfast this a.m had a chat with Rick Stone the current coach of Newcastle who stated he is in phone contact with Wayne Bennett who calls him for info on the players who are now at Newcastle and how things are progressing.

Can't believe this is o.k ? Especially with St George now in a slump and sitting fifth.

Can you imagine Alastair Clarkson from Hawthorn still being in charge of the Hawks but spending some of his week checking on the ins and outs of his next club?

Something really stinks here. Or will the media not comment because it's Sir Wayne?

There is nothing wrong or different about a future club's coach being contact with officials who will be at that club in the future. Stone will be the assistant coach next season.

Infact, coaches have a lot of say in which players the club recruits and which styles they put in place.

It just doesn't come up a lot because usually when a coach moves on, it's not to another job or for another challenge like Wayne Bennett.

Ha ha "new challenge". It's all about the coin.

But yes, 100% correct otherwise. Does anyone think the Dragons slump has anything to do with Wayne? So long as his primary focus is on 2011, nothing wrong with keeping an eye on the future. Though from the other side, Newcastle is very in the 2011 comp, THEY also need to keep their focus on now rather than when Wayne arrives.

Somewhat off topic, but what a shame Bennett is such a sourpuss. He has a brilliant mind and a lot to offer rugby league yet he stays in the background too much.

I'd love him to voice his opinions on the game a lot more than he does.

He is a no fuss sort of bloke, if he has an opinion or way he thinks will better the game a lot of time the he will just speak to the right people and not let it turn into a media thing.

Although, when his ideas aren't liked by those people he has turned to the media e.g. he wanted no Golden Point rule. e.g2. He wanted the Golden Points rule abolished.

What's the win loss ratio since he announced he was going to Newcastle ?

Something feels very wrong about all this.

The Dragons recent poor form has probably come as a result of players being tired after the representative period.. The NRL is the longest and toughest competition in the world for any code of 'Rugby' and is the longest competition in Australia. A high ratio of their players made representative sides this year, many for the first or one of the first times.

The problem with the Dragons is that when compared to teams like Melbourne or Brisbane they have very little quality depth.

My theory that Bennett has done the wrong thing by being so open and feeling he has a right to disregard loyalty as important aspects of team performance is gaining momentum finally in the media.

After announcing his move and it being known he's discussing Newcastle with Newcastle people each week they have lost 8 from 10 games.

This week Tallis started the ball rolling and said it must be a factor and yesterdays SMH sport section has a piece in the Fitz Files by Peter Fitzimmons who says Bennett is the NRL's most likeable figure but made a bad error in being so open in the way he has ditched the Dragons.

Could we have a new coach of the Dragons next Monday if they lose to the warriors ?
Let's face it, they have absolutely nothing to lose by doing that now. They have had his x factor rub off on them and he snuffed any of what was left of that out by coaching Newcastle over the phone........

The Dragons were never going to be successful 2 years in a row. The Choke was inevitable for the merged club with no culture or history, and whether Bennett or Ian Millward was coach they are headed for the wooden spoon in 2012. You heard it here first.

BHP? Thats mining, isn't it?

Ian Millward, is that really the word? He's still farting about in England as far as I know; Im sure I saw him on TV the other day.

If Tallis said it, it's wrong.
