We have just moved into the Seaholme area and would like to get opinions on which is the best club for developing junior talent. . The three local clubs are Altona, Williamstown and Spotswood. Thanks in advance.

If you live in Seaholme you should head to Altona.

The kid is in under 12's so not sure why you would head 10km away to Spotswood or even to a neighbouring suburb in Williamstown? Let him play at his local club which has a great junior program. He is also likely to play with kids he attends school with, so for your family a great way to become immersed in the local community.

Willy will only have an interest if you have talent, otherwise dont want to know you, i would be going to Altona for the above reasons, good chance his friends will be there.

Altona would be the way to go considering where you are living, great junior program (played all my junior footy at Altona). I'm biased though and would have said Altona anyway :p

Altona for sure...went down there last year for a junior coaching gig and got shown how they go about it and was mightily impressed. They're also very good at allowing kids the opportunity to progress to higher levels if talent and desire permits they wont just allow talented kids to stagnate

Definately Altona. 8 kids from under 16's 2 years ago playing VFL or higher this year. Great program and quality people. big on numbers though so I would get in quick. Quality players from Spotty and Willy are coming to Altona must say something about the club.

altona would be the place to go, its closest to you. Your kid/s could even walk or ride their bike to training. Altona also has a girls only team (now if you have a daughter intrested in footy) :thumbsu:

williamstown is to far away! probs take yopu about 10-20 minutes of driving and that can be diffcult becasue juniors train early like 4.30 Also at williamstown the juniors get left without anywhere to go, becasue they dont have a senior club in the wrfl

agreed ^^

williamstown's the way to go, a lot of altona scum going around

you would rather be altona scum, then a williamstown soft c**k

altona's not the only club with some feral players, every club has there village idioit.

With 3 kids in the current AFL system, obviously Werribee Junior Football club would be a good choice for development, if your prepared to travel...... Their jumpers are a lot better than the purple ones too.

Williamstown isn't a 10 minute drive from Altona! It takes me about 15-20mins and I'm in the city!

You obviously haven't been there recently. Apparently the u9's has a quality coach, unfortunately my boy is is an older grade.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you at that particular age group. Unfortunately at those years of junior footy (below under 14's) things that you have mentioned can occur. I would argue however that they aren't necessarily restricted to Altona (which is generally not known for such things). You obviously aren't happy at Altona and sadly the move hasn't worked out for your son.

I think it's important for me to mention that there are literally hundreds of kids that have had an extremely positive and enjoyable experience playing junior footy at Altona. In fact I can hardly think of a case of someone looking back at their time at Altona having not enjoyed it.

The 12's might need improving but I know other levels are doing very well and have seen it first hand. I know our 18's program is well run with many of those kids (from the past year or two) currently playing VFL, WRFL 1's at Altona and 2's with myself also at Altona (and performing well). Most of these kids have been through the entire junior setup together and the kids not playing VFL etc have slotted straight into our senior sides. The 16's also seem to be well run and from all the reports the 14's are as well.

Also have you raised your concerns with the club?

FWIW we went with Altona and I am extremely dissapointed. The Coaching is pitiful and the back-biting between the coaches is unbearable. Nepotism is rife and the kids are losing interest as a result. I've made some contacts with Werribee people and will be there next year.

Which U12 team was your son in? I assume the As` if he was region representative where he last played.

Point taken. After a second look I was a bit harsh and should have taken more time to reflect. My daughter was giving me a hard time at that moment. I have subsequently withdrawn the relevent posts. Also, I was referring to the levels I have witnessed which is not to say the whole junior set-up.

Well, what team is he in 12A`s or 12C`s? I think that is the age level you were referring to with your spray.

No drama mate. Hopefully things improve for you at the club. :thumbsu:
