The water polo is always good, especially if you get two of the European teams playing off like Italy v Hungary. Usually plenty of blood in the water.

Handball and beach volleyball are my two favourites.

Handball is a very exciting sport to watch. Plenty of pace and fitness required, mixed in with the tactics.

I've always enjoyed a good perve on women's beach volleyball and I know it's typical to say that I love it. But I'm really impressed by the athleticism they require. There's obviously a strong aerial component, which takes it's toll on the body but they also have to have sharp reflexes, explosive speed and dogged determination. The fact that there's only two on court and they have to do all of this quick recovery on such a difficult surface is just remarkable.

Dont really understand Handball but it is interesting.

I love the normal Volleyball. The height these guys get is insane.

Most of the field events (Discus, Javelin, High Jump etc) I enjoy.

Volleyball, especially the beach variety is crap.

Handball is okay. Track cycling is awesome. Track athletics, Boxing, water polo and Canoe/Kayak Slalom are good to watch aswell.

This year, looking forward to triathlon and the 10km open water swim.

Don't like soccer at the Olympics, seems out of place - we won, we're 12th in the world.

cycling, weightlifting & the gymnastics get a :thumbsu: from me...

but the cream for me is the athletics and middle distance running.

The men's gymnastics is ridiculous. The strength of those blokes on the rings is just incredible. Not generally a fan of the pommel horse routines but sometimes someone will pull one out of the box (like the last American bloke last night who clinched the bronze with that final shot).

Haven't seen too many other sports - they tend to concentrate on the swimming and the gymnastics over here, all of the other sports are on random channels, and I tend to stick with NBC so I can get the swimming events.

For me the Olympics aren't about the specific events. 99% of the sports at the Olympics I would NEVER watch normally, no matter what, but at the Olympics it's different. Most of these athletes will only get to go to one Olympic Games, it's usually the pinnacle of their careers. This is what makes the Olympics incredible to watch, no matter what the event, and why it's such compelling viewing. So much on the line with such little room for error.

I like the sports where basically perfection is required to win, ie the tiniest of mistakes means a huge difference. The diving, the gymnastics etc etc, i love the team events. The team gymnastics was sensational to watch, the relays are great as well.

**** i love olympics.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Good point mate. Another big reason that I love the Olympics (along similar lines to what you're saying) is the sheer passion involved when you see a close struggle for Gold or a big upset. Team sports tend to be the best at evoking this reaction, such as yesterday when the unlikely Chinese women's water polo team won their first Olympics match ever against the #2 ranked Russia.

As the Chinese got a lead late in the game their reactions after scoring were awesome and when the final buzzer went it was pandemonium. They were hugging each other and crying. This was just a group match too! It will quite likely be the biggest moment of every single one of their lives.
