Food, Drink & Dining Out Best Italian Restaurant in Lygon St?

Just Wondering,
I'll be in Melbourne in a couple of weeks for Round 1 of the footy and will be looking to go out in Lygon St on Saturday night. I used to be a fan of Il Gambero but haven't found anything to match it since the fire. Can anybody recommend a similar or decent Italian restaurant preferably in Lygon St but anywhere Melbourne suits me?

Not quite Lygon Street but in the area.
D.O.C in Drummond St, Carlton and Ladro in Gertrude St, Fitzroy both do an incredible pizza, easily in the best 4-5 in town.

Both are well worth a visit but they're incredibly busy so you'd definitely have to book.

REALLY really busy. Definitely book a table if they take bookings. As HBF said, Pasta Rustica is pretty darn good too.

And head to Koko Black for dessert after. Or get some gelato.

Wouldn't say it is the best. Good value but not a classy restaurant.

any other suggestions? my mums coming over and offered to take me and the gf out and being a uni student itl probs be my only chance to get a restaurant meal all semester lol so i'm pretty keen to go to the best quality possible. have heard tiamo's good anyone been there?

also wud u have to book on a monday? i kno these place get packed on friday and saturday but havent noticed them that packed on monday.

Steer clear of Lygon Street, most of the restaraunts there are overpriced

Go to Lygon Street for the experience rather than the food.

$25 for sloppy pasta and poor service ain't my go.

Sydney Rd Brunswick or Victoria Street Richmond have better variety.

No need to book on a Monday, just check that wherever you're going is open - it's most of the hospitality industry's night off.

I went to a place called Cafe Trevi last year after a uni exam, near cnr Grattan.
Very good pizza.
