Have to disagree. Personally I see it as:

1. Voss
2. Cousins
3. Ablett
4. Black
5. Judd
6. Akermanis
7. Bartel
8. Kerr
9. Corey

9. Kerr
10. Power

at their best i'd say kerr is a much better player than cousins. in certain periods of 2006-2007 kerr would have unbelievable patches of form where he would be nigh on unstoppable.

the problem is he doesnt produce it enough. i have little doubt his best is at least on par with judd.

Kerr's absolute best is better than anyone else in the list. IMHO.

Brisbane's midfield comfortably. Three brownlow medalists and the cornerstone to three premierships and four grandinals in a row.

If it's a vote on the three best from each team I'd go West Coast. But if it's a vote on the whole midfield I'd pick Brisbane. Lappin, Power, Hart and the Scott brothers were instrumental in the Lions success.

This. Judd, Kerr and Cousins are considerably better than the other three players from each team IMO, but if you include the whole package then Brisbane has to take it out.

If ablett and selwood when the brownlow in the next two years and win two more premeirships then where would people rate geelongs mids.

West Coast > Brisbane

and it is a matter of personnal opinion if you put Geelong infront of the two or behind them

Just look at the results throughout the Brisbane dynasty, West Coast were suprisingly one of the two teams that actually challanged them and won occassionaly.

Adelaide's midfield was also great, but unfortunately we dont come nuder the qualification :(

Considerably better is crap

Aker > Kerr
Voss > Cousins
Black = Judd.

Yep. I can't see how Brisbane were considerably better. Although I don't agree I can see how people could rank Judd & Cousins over Voss and Black. But Kerr was nowhere near Aker (or Lappin IMO).

Tough call between Brisbane and Geelong. I'd give the edge to Geelong because their midfield is deeper.

Then again, there weren't anything like the midfield rotations in footy during Brisbane's era, so it was more about the pointy end of your midfield rather than your second tier...

Dunno, both great.

Why do people omit ruckmen when comparing midfields?

If you want to talk about best centre-square combinations, then how the hell can you go past Cox, Judd, Cousins and Kerr?

Cox vs Ottens vs Keating represents a more overwhelming edge for one team than any comparison between any of the smalls.

West Coast for me, judd was breaking packs, cousins was weaving through the packs and kerr was a running machine.

Do you think in a few years that the currents Saints midfield will compare favourably to these elite elite midfields

Eg

Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Goddard, Ball, Jones?

I picked West Coast - closely followed by Brisbane.

I miss the exciting football they produced week in, week out :(

What an sensational effort from the likes of big Cox, Judd and Kerr, but you must give credit to Cousins, who although didn't get the ball, provided at least 4 shepherds just to protect his team-mates. He's a star, that man."

Then Judd leaves to Carlton. Cousins eventually goes to Richmond. It was like The Beatles had split.
Great post, makes me sad. Cousins was more than just what he did with the ball.
