If we're not being specific to a post band recording career, Jeff Lynne was arguably way more influential post ELO, if only for his production work on Petty's 'Full Moon Fever'. Probably the most underrated music mind of the last 40 years, explaining his Wilbury inclusion.

Jeff Lynne is an absolute master of pop music. Not only did he do a great job with Tom Petty but also played a pivotal role in George Harrison's excellent comeback record Cloud Nine and Paul McCartney's brilliant Flaming Pie. Then there was the Roy Orbison solo album and his work on Free As A Bird and Real Love with the Threetles. In between all of that he released a great little solo album with the great song "Lift Me Up" Why Jeff is not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is one of musics great oversights.

Nick Cave. Began with The Birthday Party
Amanda Palmer. Though I prefer her stuff with the Dresden Dolls.
Ronnie James Dio - Previously with Rainbow and Sabbath
King Diamond - Previously with Mercyful Fate

If we include Dave Mustaine then;
Motorhead Lemmy started with Hawkwind.
Ritchie Blackmore went from Deep Purple to Rainbow
Rob Zombie from White Zombie.

I definitely think Cornell deserves a mention... Euphoria Morning is great and his acoustic shows are incredible.... Scream wasn't his best work but id much rather listen to that then most of the crap on the radio these days

Yeah, I was referring to EM as well.

And strangely, I kinda like his Bond theme too.

Dave Grolh would make a pretty awesome solo album.
the colour and the shape??

Does Roger Waters belong in this thread. Whilst making solo music has been a fairly successful venture, most of his post Pink Floyd success has come from performing Pink Floyd stuff.

Though it is still the 2 most amazing shows i've ever been to.
