Been thinking that I'd like to watch the game vs the Dawks with a bit more atmosphere than me screaming at the TV on the couch. So is there a good pub in Brisbane to go watch the game at that Pies fans go to?

The Pineapple?

If not there, then I'd just stay home I think. In fact, I'll probably watch it at home anyway.

I watched the GF at the Pineapple last year. Not too bad, but you will be jammed in looking towards the roof all night. Do some neck stretches before you go.

Sadly, the options for watching AFL at Brisbane pubs is really limited.
I tried at the Paddo a few weeks back for a Pies game that clashed with the Broncos. They refused to change the channel on a single TV, even though they had the Broncos on over 30 screens throughout the entire pub. So definitely don't go there. Pricks....

As a couple of people have mentioned go to the Pineapple Hotel.

I've been there a few times this year, great atmosphere usually about 30 pies supporters or so. Dare say there would be a few more friday night.

If i wasn't heading down to the game i would be there for sure, plan to be there next week if we make it. Probably the only pub i've been to in brissy that they dont treat you like sh!t for wanting to watch AFL.

Sh*thouse hey, worst thing is that most leaguies are so fair weathered its not funny. I couldnt care less about broncos and i would know more about the team then alot of people who claim to be "fans". Half the time there is no one even watching and they still wont turn it over. Nothing shitsme more

Broncos are playing their prelim final Fri night same time at Pies game, so good luck in convincing pubs to show AFL. Breaky Creek has a few TVs, so maybe they will put one on AFL but doubt you would get much volume.

But on another note, how hot are the bartenders at the Paddo?!

True. I think they have 3 pre-requisites for girls to get a job.
1) - They have to be no older than 23
2) - They have to be at least fairly hot
3) - They have to be permanantly pissed off and treat you like shit.

Girls, if you can tick all 3 boxes, then you have the job.

Ahaha, that is a very, very fair call. :thumbsu:

I'm friends with one of the girls there ($2 drinks ftw!) and the way she serves blokes is hilarious! I couldn't tell if she genuinely hates her job, or just hates people in general.

Hmm I reckon she'd chuck the footy on for me if I asked.

Going to the Pineapple Hotel with a mate who is a Hawks supporter.

Pineapple hotel is the "offical" venue for the Brisbane Hawks supporter group. There is never a shortage of hawks supporters there.

They always have the big screen going with the sound right up. Its gets quite cosy in there, but its way better than the chalk. Odds are the chalk will only be playing the NRL on ALL of the screens. One day we were there and they wouldnt put the afl on just one tv because it had to be on fashion TV bullsh*t

You will find it hard to find a pub in Brisbane that is showing the Pies game. Also the Broncos are playing the same night so pubs will more likely be showing that game.

What about a pub on the gold coast that will show the AFL GF? Unfortunately have to leave Melbourne during GF weekend. Any options?

Check out the Southport Sharks AFL club. They apparently have 3 huge screens and it looked pretty good when I saw a Pies function this year when we played GC. (although I only really saw the function room).

I'm in Brissy and have some mates from here driving down there for the prelim because the Pineapple will be chockers this week. I start early the next day so watching it on tv unfortunately.

The Pineapple is definitely the best pub to watch it in Brissy though. Particularly when the Bronco's are playing at the same time. The Pineapple is Brisbane's "AFL pub".

If we make it through to the GF, a friend of mine who runs the QLD Magpies supporter group will be looking to hire out the top floor function area at the Piney. Every year when we play the lions up here, a pre game function has been held there, with give aways, raffles, auctions of signed Collingwood gear, past collingwood players giving speeches, snacks etc, and have had great support with hundreds showing up.

I'll give details next week for anyone interested in going, or check out the website, qldmagpies.com.au - i think... but first we have to show those hawks who's boss!

Go the Pies!!!

Newmarket Hotel usually throw on the footy for us. They have heaps of tv's and we can always manage to get it on one of them (usually in the gaming area)

Yeah the Newmarket is good, but i find i usually have to ask for the AFL to be put on. Too much to ask to walk through the door and find it already on. The Newmarket is about the closest thing Brisbane has to an old fashoined Melbourne-style corner pub. And i can stumble home from there.

Cheers, Mate! Very much appreciated

I can just Imagaine the UpRoar if you came in and said put the Pies Prelim on and they said no want to watch the Bronco's and you say "you don't give a Stuff about Lockyer or the Broncos"

Hope you got to see the game ok -

Your right about always having to ask to put it on at Newmarket hotel - but they have never said no!!

Any 2013 updates here? Have been to the Piney a few times, can't say it is my preferred venue. A number of pubs will have it on but no good if the sound isn't cranked up.
