I'm highlighting the overall speed we could have, in the midfield.
Not necessarily the starting line-up, hence the bigger body midfielder's on the bench.

B. Paton Howard Wilkie

H.B. Coffield Battle Wanganeen-Milera

C. Hill Jones McKenzie

H.F. Butler Hayes Wood

F. Higgins King Membrey

Foll. Marshall Sinclair Gresham

I/C. Crouch, Ross, Steele, Windhager, Bytel/Owens/Phillipou- sub

Thought I would start a best overall team, for 2023, instead of just round 1

Any reason why our only AA player doesn't get a start on the ground?

The balance between older and youth will be an interesting watch. MikeVK went youth heavy and a real future side. Lyon traditionally has liked his mature sides. I think the club will push him to carry a youth quota but if he starts getting results they'll let his rope loose IMO.

To me there are a bunch of guys who are after the same open spots. Webster, Paton, Clark, Owens, Windy, Nas, Coffield, Jones, Bytel, Byrnes, Wood, DMac, Peris, Hayes, Goat, Connolly, Allison and the new boys etc.

I imagine our automatic ins are Steele, Sinclair, Wilkie, Howard, Hill, Gresham, Crouch, King, Marshall, Higgins, Membrey, Battle. Then the next step down from them who are likely to be best 22 every week like Ross, Butler, Billings, Paton etc.

That's up to 16 players in before injecting youth and it looks like Coffield is earmarked for a HBF and NAS and Windy almost automatic ins as well. Lots of good players are going to be pushed out to the VFL.

I’d be very disappointed if the group of youngsters Windhager, Owens, NWM & Phillipou aren’t all in the 23 for round 1.

I know its early days for Van Es, & haven't heard too much of him at training, other than, he spent time forward at the last training sim.
But, at 197cm-98kg & good overall testing at the combine. It would be an absolute bonus if he could come in & provide an option in a key-position post. To cover for Hayes & King especially. And maybe he could pinch hit in the ruck also.
And maybe he gets the nickname V-Train, down the track.

A round 1 backline of.

B. Battle Van Es Wilkie

H.B. Sinclair Howard Stocker

would be a physically tough one

Forward line of.

H.F. Wood Phillipou Butler

F. Membrey Sharman Gresham, with Higgins on the bench rotating, while Gresham has midfield minutes.

Other forward KP options: Allison, Battle, Cordy, Heath, Howard, Keeler, Owens, Van Es

Only experienced KP forwards are:
Membrey & Wood and not exactly KP's.

Seem to have plenty of midfield options.

We’ve had a lot of midfield options for a lot of years, we need quality.

FB. Paton Howard Wilkie
HB.webster battle coff
C. hill Sinclair nwm
HF. billings membrey wood
FF. buttler Owens Gresham
Fol. Marshall crouch steel
INT. Clark windhager sharmen Ross
Sub. Phillipou

EMG.higgins Cordy Jones

I think Owens will start ff then push in to the ruck roll after center bouncers.

King will take his spot when fit then Owens to pressure wood and billings

Don't have a spot for Higgins untill gresh or buttler are unavailable

I believe Sinclair will be the quarter back in the midfield

McKenzie could also take pou spot but I believe he will have to make his way through sandy
