Makes me wonder why they gave the two debutants overs at the end last match instead of just having the spinners get rid of the tail. When they basically ignored the performance (Haskett bowled ok at the end, Buckingham terribly) with the selection and strategy the next match.

But also what was Pope thinking? and how do you end up with Thornton bowling the last?

Frustrating year as we should be playing finals.

If we didn’t lose it by poor list management then it was poor captaincy. We have to prioritise a decent pace bowler to bowl at the death.
There's still a plausible mathematical chance.

Adelaide used 7 right arm fast-medium bowlers (Manenti didn't actually bowl) across the season. IMHO they need more variety.

We have plenty but none you can really trust at the death. Thats why so many have got games. Thornton isn't that bowler. They are all to similar

They're all pretty identical except for Overton to a degree.

Zero you can really trust at the death either. Nor Haskett or Pope* in that regard.

* An extreme attempt to vindicate Pope. It's possible that he and Short had zero trust in any other bowler for the 20th. So tried to get a wicket with his last.
