For all the overly conservative squad selection. Adelaide really lack anyone who can just bat normally. All the good bats in the side are early innings intent merchants.

Then it immeidately transitions into low order sloggers. With basically only Alex Ross in between

Very poor season. Some real brain fades last njght. In our ten retained players under contract we have guys like Boyce, Kelly and Nielsen which doesn't excite me much.
I like the idea of Harry Nielsen better than the execution. I think there's a lot of use in T20 for a player that can immediately get a quick single and get off strike to let the set batter keep smashing it. Maybe not worth a spot on that alone, but if they're also a specialist keeper maybe?

And I don't think Ollie Pope was enough of an improvement to justify his recruitment this season.

But he's also way too inconsistent.

Need to strengthen the bowling as #1 priority imo.

Why would we want Travis Head?

Adelaide Strikers
Let's start with the Adelaide Strikers. So they've locked in nine. Now my understanding is, unless something has changed in the last 15 minutes, they will settle on nine,” Morris told SEN Cricket.
“They're not going to lock in 10. They want more flexibility than other clubs. The nine, they've locked in are Cameron Boyce, Alex Carey, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Matt Short, Henry Thornton and most recently, Jordan Buckingham has re-signed today into next season.
“That means James Bazley, Brendan Doggett, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Darcy Short and Jake Weatherald, those players are now free agents.”

My guess is, like Cummins, Starc etc he just won't play BBL

I don't have a problem with any of those decisions individually. But as a whole it seems pretty strange.

I can only assume with Chris Lynn there's a worry over fitness/age or the cost of his salary. Because I think he's been nothing but class while at Adelaide. Genuinely the best recruiting the Strikers have done in the last 5 years.

They need another strike bowler. A second competent death bowler. And more variety in general.

In that order.

(This is assuming they keep Overton and he is available)

I haven't checked the stats but I thought Ollie Pope was alright and he stuck around until the end. We won't sign him for next year because the Ashes will be on so he won't be available. I think we will try to get someone who can keep and bat in the top 5 again. Nielsen is there as a back up.

He wasn't terrible. But he did bat Adelaide out of at least one game by being unable to score at the required.

I thought he wasn't as good as should be expected from an import. Particularly with glaring holes elsewhere in the squad (and Alex Carey available some of the time.) I don't think the batting lineup was stronger for his presence and his keeping was solid without being amazing.

Geez how does the bottom team get 2 players in this team?
Says a lot for how poor the rest of the team was.

i can see how Overton got in the squad. He consistently made a difference with the bat, and his bowling was on average ok (wildly varied from great to terrible).

Pope was the surprise to me. I think he had a good season, and it's hard to argue with wickets. But it's also hard to argue with 31 runs in one over.
