I know its not my computer system or provider, but why is BigFooty slow these days.

I have been patient with it for ages now, and only come here as a matter of last resort.

It's response time seems to be intolerable.

Has anyone else suffered from this problem.

If you're one of the majority of imbeciles still using IE7, upgrade to IE8 now.

Much better browser than IE7, or do the smart thing and go to firefox or chrome

Sounds like geeky loser talk to me..the ones at my work also tend to overemphasise how smart they must be for knowing that crap as well.

Dont care what geeky code crap its called and dont wanna know...what i DO know is that its simply a shitload slower with those same annoying spinny circles all over it that we bagged out AFL.com to fix.

Not far off being TOO slow to bother.

Well most people complain about it being slow, yet never do anything about it

Having a bit of experience in the area, IE7 is a very poor browser for a couple of different reasons.

Are you talking about IE8

Think i'll wait to hear from the BF admin about it coz i cant imagine they wouldnt know it has slowed a lot. Probably just growth in traffic i imagine. All i know is i;m running the fastest bband cable speeds in the country on a David Wojcinski pc and its slow as hell compared to just 3 mths ago. Takes ages to load now...even right now when traffic must be low.

Cant imagine an answer is to use something most dont have nor want ...certainly not if it costs anything...it'd be big pain to change over just to visit this one site and cant have it in my favorites anymore.

Sorry, but it's you. The site would be slightly slower due to AFL being in season now. But certainly not OMG SLOW!!! enough to make a thread about.

Oh and you think most people don't have Firefox? Err, you been living under a rock for 10 years? I don't know anyone who uses IE anymore.

Does anyone else find that about every 15 minutes or so, when they click a link inside BF, that the page only loads a quarter of the way? Then it just keeps loading for a fair amount of time with no further result despite constantly refreshing(or not refreshing). Finally fixes itself though after at least 2 minutes.

Keeps happening. Using Firefox also.

The only reason someone may not want it, is probably because they don't realize it is better, or exists, or is free, and only use IE because it comes with windows.

If you did a lot of word processor stuff, would you also use Wordpad instead of Office/Word because Wordpad comes with Windows? How about Paint instead of Photoshop if working with photos every day? Granted Office and Photoshop cost money, but Firefox is free, and craps on IE in my opinion.

Around one quarter of internet users worldwide are using Firefox, so it's not some geek thing (that's Opera :p), and it's like a 7mb download (www.getfirefox.com), so it's not gonna waste any time there - you'll make up that minute or two by using Firefox anyway ;)

You can import your favourites (and other IE settings) straight into Firefox too btw.

FWIW I haven't noticed any slow down at all on BF recently, or even noticed there were spinning loading circles here (which I have seen on the AFL site), and I'm on 512k speed broadband with a 4-5 year old computer.
Unless it the advertsing on BF?? (I'm using the Firefox Adblock addon).

Yep. Couldn't even get on over the w'end... just kept endlessly loading. The AFL website along with several other notoriously slow sites were loading fine, but not BF.

This. Make the switch, you won't regret it.

Haven't noticed any problems/slowness with BF fwiw

The page weight increased significantly with the last template update. Also a lot more rich media advertising these days.

Bigger pages, longer times to load.

simple to fix -

get firefox
get adblock plus addon
get flashblock addon
block all the crap advertised on here
hey presto! - the site is tolerable even on dialup (just!)

The easy answer is to use Chrome.

It is easily the best performing browser when using Bigfooty (and I use them all).

Bollox, some of us know what we're talking about because we are paid to know what we're talking about. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you don't fall into that category .

For mine it has been a lot slower since they changed to a new skin last year irrespective of the browser I use it makes no difference. It's the main reason why I don't frequent this board as much and I don't think I'm alone in that regard. Waiting for what is essentially a simple text page to load up can be quite frustrating.

I remember early last year the traffic of this board was pretty heavy, right up there with the most popular boards on the web. There were thousands of posts and hundreds of threads made each day which has slowed down to a trickle compared to today.

You seem to be a smart enough guy Bollox, but that is really stupid.

Not going to bother because it's some geeky conspiracy? Maybe if you swallowed your pride and took the advice you'd have a much better experience.

You shouldn't tell everyone about this. The ads on this site are what keeps it going.

(i use Adblock plus too)

Firefox is a faster browser. Much faster. And you can import over all of your settings and favourites from IE when you install it so there's little to no inconvenience.

It's a very easy solution. BF is fast as for me.

Geek forum is this way >>>>>>>

Seriously though, this site is the slowest on the planet.
