Seeing that there seems to be some interest in the Big Footy Trip next year I thought I would just run a poll to see where we want to go.

I have also done some research on what it is going to cost for each trip. Apologies that the prices supplied are only from Qantas but Virgin Blue have not released the pricing that far down the track.

The prices below are the cheapest return airfares for someone who is leaving on the Friday and returning on the Sunday. The prices don't change if we made it any longer so it is completely up to us for how long we stay.

Saturday, 29th of March 2003 - West Coast (Subiaco)
Flight leaves Adelaide at 8.10am on Friday 28/3/03 and arrives 8.50am in Perth. Flight leaves Perth at 1.25pm on 30/8/03 and arrives back in Adelaide at 5.40pm. Price is $424.21

Saturday, 14th of June 2003 - Saint Kilda (York Park)
Flight leaves Adelaide at 9.00am on Friday 13/6/03 and arrives 12.45pm via Melbourne. Flight leaves Launceston at 3.30pm on 15/6/03 and arrives back in Adelaide at 5.55pm via Melbourne. Price is $354.48

Saturday, 26th of July 2003 - Brisbane (Gabba) - Night
Flight leaves Adelaide at 10.30am on Friday 25/7/02 and arrives 1.15pm. Flight leaves Brisbane at 1.10pm on 27/7/02 and arrives back in Adelaide at 3.15pm. Price is $427.63

Please reply if you are interested just in case the poll gets stuffed up by others.

I'd like to go to Brisbane but are you sure that's the cheapest? I went in 2001 and it was only $273. I had to book six weeks in advance but that would be no problem if we manage to decide on a trip.

What some English football supporters do when their team is playing on the continent is get a mob together and charter a small plane. I'll find out tomorrow whether that idea has any merit in Australia. You probably need to get at least 10 for it to save any money.

That is cheapest price to go to Brisbane, just rechecked it.

Personally I would rather go by Qantas or Virgin Blue rather than a small plane, I have a little more faith in them, the service is a little better and they have good looking girls serving you food and drinks.

:D

You can get cheaper than the fares quoted.............

Due to the work I'll be doing next year I will probably only have a few weeks notice before knowing I will be able to make the trip south.............

Whatever game is decided upon I'll try and make........otherwise might see if I can fit in a quick trip to Adelaide for a game...........but no matter what if we make the GF I'll be there.........

Just checked it out and yes it is cheaper, comes up as $251.

Tried to see if I could get it any cheaper for Perth but the price rose by about $80, is that weird or what?

When I did it most fares were $80-120 cheaper..........I've always found them cheaper.........and have booked through them without any problems.........

Just wish Virgin would do a Darwin-Adelaide run..........

has anyone been on on of the supporters bus group interstate trips, which leave from the club i think, are they good??
I'm going to see an interstate game hopefully next season, and i thought that by going by bus with fellow supporters would be cheaper and the atmosphere would be really good as well.

I have gone by bus before but its a bit hard next year because there are no Saturday games in Melbourne and I think a bus to Perth and Brisbane would be a little long.

Here is a full list of the games in 2003:

for me, the melbourne away game and the hawthorn game, both at the MCG, look like the best games, i would probably go to the hawthorn one, coz i don't mind them, i would love to see the MCG, and i think that the Hawks are going to have a very good season as well, i'll just have to take a day off work on monday, but that can be arranged ;)
I would go by bus, to save money and for the experience of it all, plus melbourne is a lot closer than west coast or brisbane

Be nice to see one of our pre season comp games up here in Darwin again next year after we missed out this year due to the AFL's pettiness...........

With the oval being resurfaced and due to be ready for the Aboriginal All Stars game in mid Feb we're hoping Port can make the trip next year..........

Be great to see the first and last game (GF) of our season next year...........;)

Powergirl, from my experiences going by plane is a lot better, i haven't actually gone by bus since round 1, 1997, but i swore then that would be my first & last game by bus. Reasons against it, it takes way too long, better off driving by car if you can, lots quicker and better IMO. Now that flights are so cheap flying is a great option. I'm sure others may have different views but you'll never catch my on a bus to Melbourne again. The train is only slight better than the bus IMO, flying is the way to go, car a last resort for me if flights are too expensive.

I'd prefer the Brisbane option. Probably better as it is a bit later in the year, more time to sort things out compared to the WC game and much better than going to cold old Tasmania mid-winter IMO. The WC game would be good if it was a little later in the year perhaps.

$370 for Perth

$291 for Launceston

When i did it for the Perth trip at Webjet you still have to add on GST & other taxes (Noise levy etc) so makes it $419.53 compared to the Qantas site $424.21 for the same flight (both very early morning flights), not a huge saving. Can also get flights at a much more human hour (about 11am departing) on both for the same prices as the early ones.

Brisbane i can only get at $422.

With Virgin & Qantas it seems that you can only make bookings until about March.

Virgin to Brisbane is about $280 at the cheapest, problem is travelling on Friday's and Sunday's it's usually harder to get a cheap flight. Might be an option to leave/come back on different days.
