Vale George Negus

Once met him outside a Socceroos match at the MCG (my mate is good friend of his son Ned)

Really friendly and terrific fellow was George, one of the few global journalists we had with any kind of integrity and decency (and never an ambulance chaser type)

George was a true Gentleman and he will be sorely missed.

We were a strictly channel 2 family growing up but would make an exception for 60 Minutes.

George and the much missed Andrew Ollie were two of our very finest investigative reporters/journalists

They had a rare breed of integrity we rarely see in today's reporters.

Sir Mike Jackson 80 British Soldier and General

ackson was appointed Chief of the General Staff (CGS), the professional head of the British Army, in 2003. He took up the post a month before the start of the Iraq War, amid disputes over the legality of the invasion and claims that the Army was under-equipped. However, he dismissed suggestions that the Army was at "breaking point". The most controversial point of his tenure as CGS was the restructuring of the regiment system and amalgamation of many regiments into larger ones, leading to the loss of historic regiment names.

He won't be missed by many. Expect the Establishment to go for a full state funeral or something though.

Liam Payne, former One Direction member, dead at 31

As awful as it is, I am not THAT surprised. I'm pretty sure he's struggled with substance abuse for a long time and this appears to be related as well. What a waste of a life. :(

There's a bit more info her, especially regarding his history with alcohol, suicidal ideation and that while he's had periods in recent years of sobriety, he may have lapsed in recent times

There's also reportedly been recent issues with an ex partner and legal involvment over things

Sounds like an unfortunately, troubled young man
