The death of the world's oldest current living person - Tomiko Itooka aged 116 - was announced earlier today, although she actually died on 29th December 2024. The title of the oldest living person now passes to 116-year-old Inah Canabarro Lucas of Brazil. Born on 8th June 1908, she is the last verified person still alive from 1908, and with only two known women still surviving from 1909, there are just three survivors from the early 1900s.

The baton for the title of the world's oldest woman (and person) passed twice in 2024, and for the oldest living man a remarkable four times.

I wonder how many times - if at all - these titles will change hands in 2025?

I know the idea of this game is to score the most points, but I have wondered if there should be some recognition for the person with the most deaths

The strategy hasn't done me much good, even with a number on my elderly list in long-term poor health or even with terminal illnesses.

One of my picks is Marion Ross (born 1928) best known for playing Mrs. Cunningham on Happy Days, and along with Ron Howard (Richie) the last two surviving members of the immediate Cunningham family still living today, with Tom Bosely (Mr. C), Erin Moran (Joannie) and Gavan O'Herlihy (Chuck) having since passed away.

On the balance of probabilities Ron Howard should become the last survivor of the Cunningham family, but one has to wonder if an elderly Marion Ross will be part of the audience watching a tearful Bryce Dallas-Howard deliver a eulogy at her late father Ron's funeral.

Is the shark out of Happy Days still alive?

Jeff Baena, the director and screenwriter who co-wrote the dark comedy “I Heart Huckabees,” and who directed films including “Life After Beth” and “Horse Girl,” died on Friday. He was 47.
His death was confirmed by a press representative, who did not cite a cause.

I didn't know he was marred to actress Aubrey Plaza, not sure if they had any children. I also didn't know Jeff Baena was the co-writer of 'I Heart Huckabees' (he would have been very young at the time), always thought it was David O Russell on his own, with the movie apparently very difficult to make, not a great success financially (luckily the budget wasn't too high) and a movie that both critics and fans either seem to love or hate.

Nah, otherwise I'd just stack my list with celebs who are 95+ and go for the Minor Premiership each year rather than a Grand Final win.

Like I said earlier my strategy of picking people over 90 doesn't work too well, at least not in my case. The only one I've guessed well under this age is Shannen Doherty last year and that was hardly a surprise.

Of the 90 plus aged celebrities, in 2020 I picked Jean Kennedy-Smith; in 2022 Sidney Pottier and Angela Lansbury (SP died in the first week of January and AL around Xmas and I had no other correct guesses); in 2023 April Stevens, Rolf Harris and Tony Bennett all in the space of about two months; and in 2024 leaving aside Shannen Doherty, I picked Jimmy Carter who was already past 100 when he died in late December.

In 2021 I had no correct guesses of any age but had removed Prince Phillip from my list given he was going to go past 100 and he died at age 99.

British drag star James Lee Williams, known professionally as The Vivienne, has died at the age of 32.
Williams shot to international fame as the winner of the first UK version of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2019, and became the first drag performer to compete on Britain’s Dancing on Ice in 2023.

Their death was confirmed early on Monday morning.

From Black Bart's son. It devastates me when they leave a pet behind, he'd be so sad and confused:

Full post: This is Casper who always sits on the arm of Barts chair. As you can see he’s still sitting even though Barts not there. I wasn’t going to say anything yet but decided to let his people know he is on hospice. We appreciate the prayers and do wish them to continue but as I said before he is no longer taking the chemo and his cancer was stage 4 when diagnosed in 2022. For those of you wanting autographs, I’m sorry it’s too late for those. I will try to keep you fans updated but right now is a time for family and friends. His brothers in the business are considered family, I hope the rest of you understand. But immediate family comes first. The rest of you will be notified with updates as soon as the family is ready to give them. But don’t think we love you any less. Right now Bart is still hanging in there. We are keeping him comfortable and pain free. That’s all I can say for now. Much love to you all!!!
