The Stay Hungry tour yeah? Did you go? Got the album the xmas it was released but was in grade two that year so a bit young for the concert. Did they come in 84 or 85? Remember buying Under The Blade in 85 at my local record store in Diamond Creek. Got a bit excited with the f-bomb in Shoot 'Em Down and my old man made me take it back for exchange for some 'Best Hits of 85' shit. Just bought the vinyl the next year at CC Records in Greensborough. Haha.

I like the classical interludes on The Somberlain. At once both opposite and complementary to the songs proper; the album wouldn't be what it is without them.
Sorry gents just catching up on 3 pages.

Agree with this - in general with Dissection. I'm not sure why exactly.

This one still gets me right in the feels. Sure Jon was a messed up individual, but he was talented as ****, if nothing else you can admire his passion for his music and his message.

Even his suicide note read more of a 'to do' list re: his next mission or the next world or some shit. I remember thinking "wow.. he actually believes this shit to the hilt!" :$

On that interview on the live DVD I thought the same. So much conviction in his beliefs.

Dissection as a black metal band is a strange one though from a song writing perspective. I'm a black metal fanboy and have had near obsessive moments since I first got into it at the very end of the 90s (I'm an 80s baby) but learning to play Dissection songs taught me nothing about how to play black metal. It didn't make sense until years later watching that interview and he said his favourite bands and biggest influences were stuff like Iron Maiden and Metallica. Dissection song construction and riffs are just straight up heavy metal played with a black metal feel. The lead in the intro to Fade to Black is my #1 warm up routine (as well as the acoustic riff straight after, especially when changing guitars with a different fretboard radius to get the feel) and I find that is closer to Jon's approach to lead writing than anything in all of black metal.
