Just got my ticket to Testament, can't wait. Saw them at a Soundwave years ago, was really good but their own show will be way better of course. I'll be setting myself up on Skolnick's side of the stage, such a great guitar player.

What are everyone's thoughts on Mastodon as a live act? I really like the albums but I don't think they quite deliver them that well live, I'm not sure what it is. Anyway I have seen them a few times and will give their sideshow a miss (at this stage anyway, might do a last minute thing)
Catch up before the show? Me and a mate will be there. I’ll be at the pub next to the venue for dinner most likely

I'm down for sure, I'm going with another mate too, think that's the pub I went to before Speed at that theater.

Really liked that venue by the way, pretty easy setup and sounded good.

It's literally right next door, but I cannot recall the name of it though, but we'll make something happen. It's going to be a good show. Will be the second time I've seen Testament. Saw them on the Formation of Damnation tour. Got my photo taken with Chuck Billy at the back of 170 Russell.

I saw Testament at Soundwave too but it was only half as good as the stand alone show i saw in Sydney in 2007. They opened with Over the Wall and then Into the Pit - absolute insanity. Probably top 3 gigs of all time.

Mastodon are a weird one. Saw them support Slayer in probably 2007 again and wondered what all the fuss was about. Sounded like a wall of mud to me. I think they've always struggled with their vocal capabilities. On the newer stuff with Brann doing the singing, I think they sound better but most people seem to prefer the older stuff.

Yeah the vocals are the worst bit live I reckon, I like Sanders and Dailor, Brent Hinds should stick to guitar imo.

Weirdly Dailor's drumming annoys me, I mean he's a great player and all but he uses too much snare, it kind of irritates me after a while. I told this to a metal head mate and he thinks I'm ****ed in the head ha ha

A meet and greet was only 250, I did think about it, that's quite affordable, compared to Metallica anyway!

I was in Russia back in September. I couldn't help myself but try and film some bands while I was there. Fortunately there was a gig on during my final weekend in Moscow. It wasn't too heavy but enjoyable nonetheless.

Ypres was the heaviest band on the bill. They're from St Petersburg and what I gather have loose links to a defunct band named Inter Arbores that I liked. They're sludgy post-metal focusing on mood rather than hooks. Unfortunately there was a snafu with the audio recording but this is still pretty good to listen to. Premieres at 8pm tonight AEDT.

Toxic Holocaust Aus tour announced. No Adelaide but I've seen them 3 times and my wallet could do with a spell.
Are they good live? I will probably go no matter what your answer is...but would still like to know :p

Will grab a Testament ticket soon too!

Managed to see Alarum and Abramelin last night. Left before Pestilence as i was exhausted and not feeling it. Abramelin were great (the Haley's are ****en animals!) and Alarum are clearly very talented, lot of Death (the band) influence in there but also some randomly placed jazzy interludes. Was a good night. Part of the reason i committed to a ticket was to see the supports so im not too worried that i missed Pestilence. Turnout wasnt great but somewhat expected for a Wednesday night. Im glad they played a big venue though. The Triffid has really great acoustics.

As for Mastodon live... i have seen them several times and each time ive lost interest about halfway through. I like them as a band and i think they have a quite strong back catalogue but nothing they do really amazes me.

I have even thought 'i probably didnt enjoy them last time/s because i was tired or a bit inebriated or whatever' but because ive now seen them several times i know that they just dont rate highly as a live band for me. I wouldnt say they are a bad live band though. Just average.

Apparantly Opeth will announce an Aus tour soon. Probably wont see them again despite rating them live. Mikael can actually be quite funny in a somewhat awkward/kinda c***ish way

Their new music interests me somewhat but i dont think id be willing to pay $100+ or whatever it will cost to see them again.
