Blessed to be here once again and forced to relive our season for the entertainment of you lot. I was genuinely shocked how many games I had no memory of while tallying the votes - a testament to how thoroughly uninteresting 2022 was.

It is finally time for the riveting journey of counting down who our best player was for the year. So strap in and enjoy the ride that includes several top up players, some interesting final placings and Brayden Ainsworth.

Nic Naitanui is the reigning champion two years running having won it from Tim Kelly and Jack Darling last year. Let me know your predictions for this year below.

Posters who voted in every game and posters who missed 1 game will get their individual breakdowns. I will also take requests for anyone else.

Question, easiest way to navigate to the votes from phone? I’m not sure I can be bothered searching back through every game to see if I voted but would love a breakdown please.

Hopefully I’m not being a pain in the arse. You go a great job with the compilation every year

You missed Rounds 1, 17, 18, 19 & 21.

Happy for you to go back and add your votes in for those games otherwise I can add you to the requests for your individual vote breakdown.

Out of 46 players on our list (not including top ups who didn't play), 41 played AFL footy. Additionally 6 COVID top up players pulled on the wings in season 2022.

For clarity, top up players were eligible to receive votes but only the ones that played for us are counted as WCE players.

So ultimately we had 47 out of 52 players play AFL footy for us this year. If that makes any sense at all.

Before we kick off next week, here are the listed players who didn't manage a game in 2022:

#5 Brad Sheppard
Shep retired last year but was technically on our list for season 2022 and due to retiring in December of 2021, he didn't get a proper send off in the votes last season. Retired due to lingering concussion symptoms, Shep was always consistently one of our best and we felt the sting of his absence quite regularly this year. Congrats on the career you sexy man, you are sincerely missed in Eagles colours. (14th place in 2021)

#12 Oscar Allen
Missed the entire season due to stress related foot issues, Allen injured himself in the preseason but was said to be available by Round 5. He never played a single game. Our brightest young spark, we desperately need his influence in 2023 especially with the retirement of JK. (5th place in 2021)

#18 Campbell Chesser
Our first round draft pick in 2021, Chesser was firming for a Round 1 spot before severely damaging his ankle in the very first scratch match of the year against Fremantle with his very first touch of the football. Aiming to complete a full preseason for next year, it will be interesting to see what he can do.

#28 Tom Cole
A bad ankle injury kept the premiership small defender out all season and we missed his drive coming out of the backline. Supposedly should be ready for the preseason. (19th place in 2021)

#38 Tom Joyce
An SSP selection late in the preseason was looking ok when he performed fairly decent in the practice fixture. But ultimately the very injury prone former Brisbane Lion injured himself once again and never got back to competitive football. Joyce has been delisted

#34 Jack Williams

Jack Williams was only listed player to play AFL footy this year and not receive votes. Clearly not ready for senior footy but forced into the side during our COVID and injury crisis early in the year, Jack played his only senior game for 2022 against North Melbourne in Round 2. He ended with 2 disposals, a hit out and a tackle. Very much a work in progress but it would have been valuable for him to get a taste that early.

The top ups
We played 6 unlisted top up players this season to make up the numbers and 5 of them did not receive votes. These 5 played their only game of the season against North Melbourne in Round 2. They are:

Never got going in 2022 and struggled with injury for almost all of the year with his only games for 2022 coming in Rounds 2, 3 & 4. His best performance was Round 4 vs Collingwood where he ended with 15 disposals and a goal but was clearly never really physically fit enough to play but player availability meant he was required to.

The young mid finally got his debut in 2022 which came against Richmond in Round 16 and he held his spot for the following week against Carlton. His debut would be the best of the two statistically as he recorded 13 disposals and kicked a goal in the Richmond game. Remains to be seen if he is awarded another contract for next year.

Dom's season was absolutely wrecked by injury after he severely injured his ankle in a preseason practice match against Fremantle. He returned for a grand total of 1 game in Round 14 vs Geelong (where he recorded 20 touches) before missing the rest of the season with a stress related foot injury. Massive fall for Sheed who finished 4th in last years count.
