Gaff copped a lot of heat in 2023 and most of it was probably deserved as he had what was likely the worst patch of his career midseason but he finished the season out strongly and still recorded some good stats including: 28 disposals, 3 marks and 5 tackles in Round 3 v Fremantle, 32 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles in Round 6 v Port Adelaide and 30 disposals, 10 marks and a goal in Round 19 v Carlton which earned him Best on Ground honours and is our first player to earn this in 2023. He is also one of the few and our first player to play every game in 2023.

Our 2022 Champion, Barrass struggled with injury in 2023 (as did most of our list to be fair) and had the end of his year wiped out by a back injury. Our vice captain had some memorable games before this happened though including 21 disposals and 9 marks in Round 3 v Fremantle and 20 disposals and 14 marks in Round 16 v St Kilda.

Another victim to the Round 3 massacre; Cripps broke his leg in that Derby which saw him miss 12 rounds. He returned in Round 16 and played every game for the rest of the season after that - most of them to a good quality. His highlights included 18 disposals, 3 marks, 11 tackles and 2 goals in Round 20 v North and 17 disposals, 3 marks, 8 tackles and 5 goals in Round 23 v the Bulldogs - both of these games were wins, proving how important Cripps is to our structure.

The often maligned Waterman seemed to have cemented his spot in the side in 2023 where he helped out in the ruck at times while still usually good for a goal a game before a career-threatening illness stuck that kept him out for the season. Returning 4 goals and two occasions in Round 2 v GWS and Round 5 v Geelong, the latter earned him Best on Ground honours where he recorded 20 disposals, 7 marks and 4 goals.

An injury speckled year for Sheed who started out the year in the team before missing a chunk, returning for the middle of the year before missing the end of the season again through injury. He still racked up some decent numbers though with games such as 30 disposals, 8 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals in Round 10 v Hawthorn (this game won him Best on Ground honours), 29 disposals, 7 marks and 5 tackles in Round 8 v Richmond, and 43 disposals (this is a career best disposal count for Sheed), 9 marks and a goal in Round 12 v Collingwood.
