Yeah he was way more angry with the first half than most of us were I reckon, not even the 2 goals the whole half he said was really poor.

It's a bit catch 22 right now, definitely trying to be a little more defensively aware and that's tough with the 3 you named, but then that midfield along with the back 4 in its current state means there **** all progression from deep.
He wants a bit of in between. Which I can understand being a bit confusing for the players if they are used to being all-in on 1 particular way. But what we dished up in the first half was sitting ducks sort of stuff. Wait long enough and we were going to gift something to them & they were likely to score from a corner at some point today.

I agree I hated that, especially when you have Gray and Dragusin in the back 4 and not two colossas CBs

There's a lot of little positives today

Kinsky for the most part
Spence looks so good
Bergvall at 6 and at 8!
Gray again
Son and Solanke when we attacked
Maddison and Kulu as a CM pairing again!
ive been thinking about this and what you've just mentioned

Maybe, just maybe we aren't as far away as we all think

Reinstate Romeo + Van De Vin next to Spence and potentially get Porro into a better defensive mindset and the defence looks settled

the midfield has always been under appreciated by what feels like every manager at Tottenham. Not since the Moussa Dembele era with Eriksen, (prime) Dele have we had a great midfield group. Kulu obviously the star, Maddinson being challenged by Bergval is exciting. Upgrade Johnson to an actual winger (Odobert?) and upgrade Sonthen we may well have a reasonable enough group if Grey is ever given the chance to play a holding midfield role.

so that is 2 we should be upgrading

then add some much needed depth and get worthy minutes into Lankshear to play as 2nd, 3rd striker to Dom.

That would see us like this;

Vicario / Kinsky

Porro - Romero - VdV - Spence / Udogie

Grey

** - Kulu - **

Maddinson / Bergval

Solanke

so improving the wingers and get a much needed sidekick for Grey and we could be in business. Maturity for those kids would be paramount but the bones are certainly there.

It's far and its not at the same time.

Still think we must allow for injuries to be part and parcel of Angeball. So need 5-6 CMs who we can trust at any moment. And 4 wing options and 2 STs. And then obviously having 4 actual CBs or at least having backup FBs on both sides so we dont have Davies as a 4th CB plus a FB depth player at the same time.

CB: move on Dragusin and sign a quality CB who isn't a 3rd choice, but someone who takes mins easily from VDV and Romero. Both are proven as not reliable to play 35+ league games for us. So they need someone who doesn't have a drop off.

FB Depth: we then have a decision to make on Ben Davies. Is he a FB depth player? If so, then we need to have a Phillips/Vukovic/Dorrington as a 4th choice. Is he a 4th choice CB? If so, buy an actual LB to push Udogie.

CMs: we need to move on Bissouma and I think sadly Bentancur. Kulu, Maddison, Sarr, Bergvall & Gray + 1 top class signing

4 wings: move on Werner and Richarlison*. Johnson, Son, Moore + 1 top class signing

2 STs: either we keep Richarlison as a 3rd ST since he isn't reliable and sign a W/ST. Or we sign an a player capable of rotating with Solanke in the high volume of games we have.

Solanke had his worst game of the season for us against Arsenal. And we all have been big fans of him so maybe we give him more outs. But based on what Ange has said about him and Kulu and their effort, he actually just looked gassed and weak. Which isn't what he is normally like. Signing an able player to take mins off him means we get the 7-10 out of Solanke nearly every game

So the above needs 5 signings. But top quality signings who can come into the XI and not see a large dip from our constantly injured "starters" and there should be money there to do so with the sales of Bissouma, Dragusin & the fact that our wage to turnover ratio is the lowest in the top 5 leagues. We need and deserve investment!

I agree with this. Maybe I miss communicated before, I think 7 in midfield and up front is too much. 6 each is fine and definitely needed. Solanke was tired but I think he needs the others to press around him to help him. He was a bit loan solider especially the first half. Bissouma and Bentancur need to go as well. A 6 who's more defensive and can go between the CBs and another 6 who can control the game from deep are a must. Right winger who can create aswell

Yeah I think i held onto 1 more CM because I dont think it's likely we can move on both biss and Bentancur in 1 go. But want us to still sign before we sell the 2nd

Depends on money I guess, if you're happy to take 20m each for Bentancur and Bissouma you can move them on. If levy wants top dollar gonna be very hard.

Problem will be more than just Levy

Like richarlison, the player needs to accept a sideways or backwards move

Hello mediocrity
Dragusin is 22 and into his second season of the PL. I think he is getting better. Maybe won't be a top first choice but he looks at least capable of being a back up despite what his manager thinks.

Davies is a solid foot soldier and someone who will give you a 6-7 / 10 every game he plays. That is all you can ask for.

I cant wait to see Grey be given the opportunity to play this role. Isn't that his 'normal' position?

I think we are on the same page re reading this.

The actually first XI seems capable with a couple of astute signings. Creating and building quality depth seems to have been a problem ever since I followed spurs bar that prime Poch era

I keep banging on about it but we need to invest in our academy more and not just develop and sell or bench these kids. Integrating into the first team needs to be paramount if we are ever to remove ourselves from the far depths of mediocrity we've been in for too long.

Yeah and tbf in his presser ange was asked about Gray playing at CB in the future and he was pretty categorical that whilst he's proud of his work filling in, he ain't a CB. Gonna be very interesting in a month from now when VDV and Romero are back if Gray goes straight into midfield, long term playing at CB is gonna be so valuable for his understanding at 6

Bentancur will always have the option of Italy again. Bissouma yeah not sure, maybe I'm pulling this from arse but he looks like a bloke who'd be happy to sit on the bench to keep his paycheck high

Good to hear. As much as his work has been good, having a calm head in the number 6 could have a positive effect on the others around him

Bentancaur is good, bordering on quality. Good to see others are now viewing the amount of football he actually plays

Where is Odobert at by the way?

Bentancur > Bissouma, if he actually got a good run who knows how good he could be. I like his extra height aswell.

Odobert end of Feb I think?

Davies we could be doing a kind gesture by having him as a squad member and youth coach at the same time. And be a 4th choice CB behind a new CB and our current main 2.

Dragusin will never be good enough to be in a back 4 that relies on their CBs to be good on the ball. He hasn't made telling errors. But he is a massive reason we have struggled to play the proper way in games where sides allow us to have the ball. He can't do anything with it which is a key part of the role of the CBs in Angeball. There is a direct correlation between his good showings and his poor, and that of us as a team with the number of passes he makes. In the league he has played 90 mins 11 times and we have won 2 games. The two games we have won against Villa and City he has made less than 60 passes. In the other 9 games he has averaged closer to 75 and we and he have struggled.

The most intriguing one for me is Sarr. When he is 'on' he looks quality. Just dont see it enough. Classic Spurs as I keep saying. similar to Bentancaur, we just dont see it enough

Odobert should compete with Johnson if he ever gets fit again, yes?

I feel like Bissouma is a Saudi league type of player. And maybe with his injury and head troubles Bentancur's agent could convince him to go take good pay days from there too!
