Not really. You're more likely to play regular European football at Tottenham than forest or Bournemouth. The forest and Bournemouth one season wonder then drop off story has played out a million times
But next season they're more likely to be playing Europe with them. And to walk out on a club mid season for money doesn't sit well with me. Just wait until the summer for the pay rise

I made a comment that a good and well run club will pay overs to change the dynamic of a team. Arsenal seemingly did it with Rice, Liverpool did it twice with Becker & Van Djik.

They were world class and genuine top 10 - 20 players in world football at the time. We do so out of desperation it seems

Just on the "it's January argument. Other teams who would (normally) be below us are making signings, why cant we? is our scouting network that abysmal they discard all the info brought to them?
Yeah I was watching a podcast with a Tottenham fan and he's been pretty staunch ange in, wavering a little ATM and he was going over the whole 43% turnover thing and how if you don't include income the club makes, Tottenhams owners have spent 168 million vs City/Arsenal/Chelsea who have spent over a billion each ( not sure the time period)

Main thing he was pissed about was when was the last time Tottenham was linked with a massive transfer, not that he expects to get them but even Declan Rice and the 100m, Tottenham could afford him ( ignore the London WH thing) but wouldn't even be in the conversation.

Gyokeres, Palmer, Caicedo, Baleba, Marmoush, Isak, Bruno, Cunha etc anyone who would make a world class change to the side potentially and Tottenham aren't even at the table

Is it really overs when they deliver?

Still not gonna match spurs for the money especially if it's just Europa League because both squads will have to be padded out for the extra games

someone made a comment in the last couple of days in this thread about "warm bodies"

on one hand, **** me, we need reinforcements;

on Theo there hand, dont just sign guys for the sake of it and end up with garbage we won't play anyways when disproven they're capable in the big time

what do we do? we need help
We needed the ideal signings in the summer.

We need warm bodies now because the season's become a cluster**** due to injuries. 4 fit forwards for 3 spots. 5 defenders for the back 4 spots. With games every few days.

With everyone returnee we get we lose 1-2 of the overused. I'd take Eric Dier back at this rate!

If the issue was as simple as just pay up then why are none of our contemporaries 'spending the money' and getting guys in. Why haven't Woolwich found cover for Jesus and Saka? Why haven't United bought someone given they're in our area of the table?

Why does this pattern of top clubs not getting much of quality happen in a lot of January windows? We had the highest profile signing last January in the EPL with Dragusin. Many here wouldn't mind him sold. Wharton and Echeverri were the only other EPL transfers over 10m.

January prior was an outlier as Newcastle had just found oil money and Chelsea were spending large under Boehly. NFI how they've avoided FFP breaches.

January before that and Digne for 25m, Luis Diaz and Bentancur appear to be the only decent signings that month.

Pointing out that January windows can be hard as clubs aren't willing to sell is not excuses. It is merely reviewing recent empirical data and presenting facts.

If the options in January 2025 window end up being a meh squad option for cheap money or nothing I'd prefer nothing. And what is evident is that unless you are a cheat like Man City no one else seems to be able to get clubs to sell someone decent. And I say that thinking Marmoush will flop, just like most other Frankfurt forwards they've sold have flopped previously.

Summer windows are where you move the needle. January you have to get lucky that someone you need is willing to move and is allowed to move. So I am not surprised we're struggling to find players we need. Hard to force clubs to sell midseason. They have their own KPI's to meet as well.

Spurs just need loans, I agree spending 30m on a guy who might not be the best fit next year would be stupid but yeah senior available players are needed.

They aren't going to be a massive gap between what we'd actually offer them for wages since we are so cheap!

We did it with Dragusin last season. Signed someone for the sake of it.

At this point I wouldn't even be against that. At least it stops our proper players from being overworked and getting injuries that could cause lasting impacts to their careers.

VDV would be 2/1 chance of another injury when he returns. Richarlison not much longer odds to get one in the next month

market rate or over market rate to get the sale done. The final result comes down to the eyes of the beholder

you are spot on though. These guys are consistently world class and deliver
If the guy you are 90% confident will make you better you think is worth 45m and the seller wants 70m. Spend the 70m.

Better than going cheap and getting a 25m 2nd rate option!

I know I bang my head against the wall with this but our academy being under utilised will continue to hurt us.

I maintain that minutes into some of these kids not only offers respite to those being covered but if Levy actually wants to do business than acumlutating mines into these kids can see some values sky rocket. I mean Garnacho has been discussed upwards of £65m

Lol uniteds academy is a million times better than spurs though, Harry Kane and.... Edwards in the last decade?

United have like 2 wonderkids coming through a season it feels like

even in comparison to similar standards, we have good kids coming through, we just dont utilise enough imho

We sold Troy Parrot in the summer for peanuts despite some club HG issues. He's gone on to be 3rd top scorer in the Dutch league with 10 in 18.

Come January we go and look at the Dutch league for someone on loan who has 2 in 10 appearances!

We dont need them to all be Harry Kane. But wouldn't Parrot have been more than handy this season with Richarlison made of paper mache

The lack of academy use stunts their progress but also reduces the fees we can get for them

spot on again old mate, see below

You don't dump academy kids into teams that are struggling.

Ange has used kids in every league before, it's very clear he prefers to work with young players. It's very possible these guys aren't ready/good enough.
no one is denying they dont all need to be world class players. Players should serve a purpose. Reguillon is worth pittance now because he is not being played o allow others to refresh. It's staggering we literally use the same 16 or so players.

Moore's played alot, Gray is playing regularly and so is Bergvall, unless you guys want literally the youngest side of all time to be playing spurs are already playing more teenagers than any other premier league club
Would these kids be getting minutes if everyone was fit?

Yeah they would be, they shouldn't be because no good premier league team has multiple 18 year olds starting though. They may look good for 18 year olds but they don't look good for 25 years olds
