Bigmans review of Edwards so far this summer hasn't gotten me that excited.
Ryan maybe on edge of the squad for half back role.
Bit early to write off Edwards based on 1 preseason though..

Ryan more a half back flanker though, who should have debuted last season.

Curtin needs to play half forward with spurts in the middle.
Don't mind a bit of wing too.

Games Tex is rested he can play a higher proportion of the game up forward.

Not rating him off. Just that he's unlikely to be playing AFL for a while yet - needs a strong SANFL campaign to get himself in when injury or form create an opportunity.
I was talking the future not round 1.

It’s going to be safe to say that selection pressure this year is going to be intense, the best it’s been for a long time, just need the coaches to make the right call.

The forwards are more clear cut, but defence and midfield if we have a full squad, who misses?

Just don’t know if he’s quick enough for wing, or can provide enough fast run if you know what I mean.

Half forwards effectively play as wings but without the need of being a running type player. I really like the thought of Curtin in the Lynch role and with his leg able to do some damage passing to our forwards, plus shots on goal. Given his height he’d be a very awkward match up.

Don’t know if he’d ever be a full time mid but we have nothing to lose by continuing to give him experience in it.
Definitely quick enough for wing , pretty sure he’d beat Sholl in a foot race

But it’s a very technical role to play and lots of running requirement

Agree he’s a natural forward , will develop further in midfield too

Yes we back our guys one on one.
Second only to GWS in 1v1 @ Def, and a fantastic loss % ratio.

Given our gameplan and poor midfield to begin the year, our defence was our best line for the year and has a lot of quality in it.

All it needs is a midfield that wins their fair share, including centre clearances and can also put pressure on. With the players we’ve brought in I’m confident we can do that.

Depends alot on injuries as always

Berry and Butts I see missing games when we are at full strength

Guys like Dowling Jones Pedlar etc will also need to knock door down

Smith and Murphy in the 2s

Ryan will debut at some point , not so sure Edwards will but hope he does

I think he’ll get picked ahead of Sholl, even thou Sholl deserves it on last season
Well this all comes down to which player the coaches forget played well last season and are ousted by the summer specialist.

There’s always one or two who work their way into the 22 during the year with quality form only to be forgotten over preseason again.

My fear is it’ll be Nank again this year. Kid is a jet. Type of player I can see us ****ing around only to watch him toddle off to a top 8 side and win a flag.

If Sholl keeps form in pre season of last year he is a Monty to play round 1

Also started kicking goals , of course he is suspectible when the pressure goes up so will see later in year

Sholl and cumming will be the wings if cumming is fit .. big if though

Nank is prob our one guy with genuine speed out of back half , I’d be playing him for sure presuming fitness and ok pre season form

Or, you know.... he's had a good pre season and is in form ??

It's unlikely he does, but there isn't "something wrong"

mate we are at the stage of pre season where unless Laird and Crouch are playing Sanfl round 1 the clubs deemed a failure. Its been this way for at least the last 34 years. same names mentioned, people hated.

We seem to have depth in most areas. Maybe not Ruck or Key Forward, but everywhere else. Not a heap of standouts at this stage.

I wonder if we could effectively rotate players through the season to give us balance and some freshness. I think Geelong did this a couple of seasons ago, albeit they were a very experienced side and to some extent it would've been out of necessity. Australia did it well with their fast bowlers on an Ashes tour back in 2019.

Even if it means a weakened SANFL side on occasions. Look at a max of around 18 games during the season and then pick your best for finals.

These three bits will go a long way to having us shoot up the ladder, should it translate into in-season performance/improvement.
Agree with this.

I'm a Nicks fan, and I think he's done a good job at getting our "base-line" level up. What will propel us is elite talent and these three have the capacity to become those players.

Jones to start rd1
He's one of the players on the fringe competing for the last few spots.

His best is good enough if he is injury free. Last year he was very restricted with foot injury.
