The over-contracting of depth players still worries me quite a bit

Is a good trade negotiator, though, hasn’t lost too many deals over the past few years
if even 10% of his old mans aggression he would be a very tough b@stard. But he is also commercially realistic (whilst still driving hard bargain in recent years) unlike the Dodo who got virtually every team offside over the years. Cant see how many teams have drafted/traded as well as the Crows in the last few years (even inc the one high value dud pick we all agree on).

Is 2024 too early for a flag? Not out of the realms of possibility considering our form vs top 4 teams this year and abundance of 'organic growth' we have vs other competing teams.

I mean, if one of Ranks or Rash moves into the middle and stars, plus the more secondary youth like Soligo/Pedlar/RT/Worrell/Jones continue on an upward trajectory (and Tex/Crouch/Laird keep chugging along), it's absolutely possible

But we'd need a LOT to go right. The extra midfield star is probably the most important thing, if Rankine gives Shai Bolton-like production (for example) that should put our midfield up with some of the better ones in the league

So good to get unfiltered content like this. Thank you very much Bigman. Keep calling it as you see it.
I remember when someone (Alex?) had a melt down when someone gave a pre-season report full of hopeful positive observations rather than giving hard data on the distance between the cones on the shuttle runs

agree would take a lot to go right..but a few things working in our favour:

  • 'flying on the track' relative to previous years according to bigman. skills and fitness.
  • cumulative benefit of Burgess kicking in
  • we were the best performed of all teams vs top 4 (end of minor round) in 2023. I think EVERY game we lost to top 4 (Lions 6 pts, Dees 4, Pies 1 and 2 pts were winnable and 3 of those 4 games were away). We also beat Lions and Power twice easily.
  • abundance of elite (inc projected elite) juniors that am expecting further significant growth (inc Pedlar, Rachele, TT, Worrell) and believe Rankine could be an elite top 20 player of the comp by the end of the year and our B&F
  • Tex superfit again and expecting another strong year. Fog and TT likely to be much improved from relatively underwhelming years IMO
  • Curtin will add to the team next year IMO. Could end up as our most elite player of all over coming years
  • Goal kicking cost us dearly last year in a number of games. For such elite forward kicks for goal - Rankine, Fog, TT, Rachele - I expect improvement next year
  • still so young but all those close games (1 win, 5 losses) and bad goal kicking likely to materially improve with another season of experience with our core team. See Powers close losses (2022) vs close wins (2023) as an example of how things can change in a season

I will personally be very disappointed if we dont finish at least 13-14 wins and a home elimination final as a minimum. And wouldnt be surprised to see top 4 (15-16 wins or more)

That would have been one of my training reports in the day

I get the feeling from Nicks' little talk about how far we have come and we want to be a great team not just a good one, he seemed quite serious that there will be no messing around and claiming of honourable losses I reckon that Sydney game hurt a lot more within the wall of the club than we even know, and they are all hungry.

One of your coffee reports?
You got two for one ;).....Training and Coffee reports

My reporting that Troy Menzel would fail .....well, let's just say it wasn't well received at the time

I think Rankine is already better than Bolton
