Bigman’s Training Reports

Last year Pedlar was always gasping for breath after a contest. There appears to be little or none of this in 2024-25 preseason. He is running on top of ground again

Butts fitness really surprised me. After such a long lay off he was looking quite fit and healthy

Chayce has also dropped some weight and is training much better for it. The foot injuries can take over 12 months to get over given the fitness drop off experienced

Be nice to salvage a player out of Jones even if it’s back pocket or as a sub player.

Yoink!

Thread starter changed to bigman

Thanks George Kramer for the idea:
I believe most would agree that they are a highlight of this board during the preseason and they can often be lost because of bickering, you know who you are, so perhaps a dedicated thread would be useful.

That’s of course if you’re happy to bigman ?

Perhaps even start the thread yourself for the sillies who have me on ignore or it could be started by a Mod
Who are the sillies who have Bigman on ignore, I’m so confused

Jones has far more weapons than someone like Bond who was probably incumbent in the back pocket by the end of 24. Jones had played wing a bit last few years but i feel the depth now in that spot will see him out of those rotations

Or wing assuming he is over his foot injuries.

I have more hope for Jones than I do for Milera.

Not sure what to make of this? Any indication that they're pushing him towards a bigger ruck role? I hope not.
Just surprising to see him in the elite endurance bracket with the size he'd added last season.
It's because he only takes half of the number of steps that everyone else does

Thilthorpe has been an endurance beast right back to his junior days, as a 16 and 17 year old he blitzed the West Adelaide A graders in the preseason run both years.
Having said all that I still think he’s most dangerous or had his most dangerous form as a deep forward

Debut v hawks

Showdown demolition

Even the saints last QTR when came on as sub

All this done deep inside 50 where his size and contested marking was the reason not his endurance

Endurance a nice cherry on top

It allows him to burn off any opponent. If he works up the ground someone will always have to follow him

I’m not too worried about Peatling, just noticed he laboured a touch today and really battled to keep up with Rachele who, whilst much improved, is not among our best runners. Perhaps it says more about Rachele who looks super fit.

Edwards is the conundrum. He ran great in his time trials last pre season. This pre season he’s really dropped off quite a bit it would seem.

It’s strange as he doesn’t appear to be in poor condition. He’s probably bulked up a bit but he was a solid lad last year and ran just fine. I’ve noticed he’s listed by the club as a defender in training now which could be linked. I think they’re missing a trick here however as he does not have a defensive mindset and has already been exposed a bit back there by the likes of Curtin and Tex. He’s a midfielder.
My hunch is Edwards will be a bust

Could definitely be wrong so it’s only a hunch

No arguments from me, he's way too valuable up forward as a roaming St.Nick type where his endurance can be a real difference maker gassing his opponents than to have him hacking about in ruck

He's our best to go to marking option... so we need to him on the move so that he is a regular option.

Wasted if just plays full forward, but he absolutely should be there when we kicking the ball in deep.

I don't know how close you watched the SANFL last season but I can see a player in him for sure especially the last few games where he actually got to use some of the speed we hadn't really seen early on. I'd much sooner persevere with Edwards for a few seasons than the likes of Schoenberg or Cook if they don't lift big time this season.

Bez is back into my starting midfield conversation based purely on the basis of his new 'do..

Hopefully a sharp haircut means sharp hands.
He looked like he was playing with a cake of soap in the rain every game.
