You don't need a developing ruck. You only need a ruck.

The issue comes if we can't get a ready to go ruck to replace ROB.
We need 2 really - 1 to replace ROB, and 1 to replace Strachan.

Both are out of contract at the end of the year. Strachan's contract shouldn't be renewed. ROB should be offered a contract, but may choose to exercise his FA rights - particularly if the rumours about him wanting to study in Melbourne are true.

Without wanting to derail the discusision... how TF do you manage to fit an apostrophe in the middle of his name?

It's Jones, not Jone's. To indicate possession, it would be Jones' (Jones's would be wrong, but at least it's close).

If you're writing your post on a smartphone it will often automatically add an apostrophe when a proper noun ends with s. Not always, but often enough.

The fact that our biggest shitfight on this site is about the ruck situation tells me our list has gotten a lot better.

Also haven't we been trying to recruit ready-to-go ruckmen only to end up being used to fatten their next contract at the current club? Grundy but also someone else wasn't there? Im not sure ruck was ever totally ignored but this site would've gone into full meltdown if we had fixed the ruck before the midfield and the keys
Did we go in for Rowan Marshall a few years back? Or am I imagining that

It's certainly a convenient argument more than a realistic one. A coach I don't like ruined a player.

Plus I agree, the biggest problem with Jones has always been Jones. We just didn't read the room and thought he was our savior in 2020, which is what led us into the career trajectory that he fell apart.

We can argue the cause, but he was very clearly mentally shot.

Here's Murray .. hopefully of more use than the 1 most of us are familiar with on here

Good to see

Interesting that there's lots of direct interaction with players from him. So he's not just an "oversee the coaches" type but heavily involved at the coalface.

Shades of Dean Bailey about him? A footyhead who's been in the industry a long time.

The question is why have we kept Strachan on the list for 7 seasons if he's not even a capable backup? Why waste a list spot for that long on someone that couldn't cover for a ROB injury?

If we had swapped him for someone else once or twice in those 7 years maybe we find a ROB replacement by chance or put a bit more pressure on his spot
I don't disagree - but I think the club has felt Strachan WAS a capable backup through all that. He was the best ruckman in the best second tier comp.

Anyway, it probably made sense to rotate through the backups to see if one could be better than that, just like you've suggested.

Yep .. tbh I don't really know what I expected and didn't pay a huge amount attention to his appointment

I guess I'm now just hoping he has a positive impact across the entire football department

Is there a point in actually posting what the clubs opinion is over and over when we already know what it is?

The question isn’t “what is their opinion” it’s “is their opinion right?”

They may well have, however it became obvious in our June 6th loss against Richmond where Strachan was getting pantsed by Nankervis that bad that he was subbed off and then on June 13 it became crystal clear he wasn't up to it when Grundy obliterated him. They had from that day onwards to take effective action with the list but did nought....and yet here we are with only ROB and no depth unless you call defender Borlase and forward Burgess ruck depth.?

I reckon last year or the year before, Marshalls agent let it slip we were interested, which was probably a smart ruse to scare the Saints to offer more money, after all, we don't have a ruck so we should be in the market for one.
