If Bowden had given Kasper out LBW (as he should have done) when he was on 1 in that innings.........?

Bowden watched the shot, not the ball.

Shouldnt he have refered it to the third umpie if didnt watch the ball. As for LBW, I think Aussies came out worse on that front, like Strauss in the first innings. Oops.

when you look @ it, that decision did cost australia the ashes... kaspa wasn't out and in all likelyhood we would've got those 2 extra runs, won that test and would've won 2-1, or drawn 2-2 if rain didn't save us from defeat...

but alot of other things also cost australia the ashes...

Yeah, and it took television half an hour to find the angle that showed this, right? Damn tough job, being an umpire- they will make mistakes (unless they are our boy eddiesmith, who never makes them)- you accept the call and move on. Simple.

We lost the Ashes because we onl;y had two bowlers- and one of them was unfit after Lords- but still took wickets. We lost the Ashes because our batsmen never crossed the 400 run thresh hold and several of the top 7 had shocking Test series. We lost the Ashes because the English bowlers had an idea of how to get us out. We lost the Ashes because several of their batsmen came through when needed. We lost the Ashes because the selectors refuse to work younger players (Tait) in earlier, and then the captain is too scared to bowl him when he needs a different look. We lost the Ashes because the selectors failed to make changes that might have turned the tide. We lost the Ashes because we dropped a shocking number of catches.

We did not lose the Ashes because of calls made by the umpires. They are there to interpret and apply the laws. Their mistakes pale in comparison to the display we saw from our guys

Agree with that. When you think about it, we played some dreadful cricket on this tour and ended up only going down 2-1 - had Australia played anywhere near thier capabilities the result would've been a lot different.
I thought England outplayed us by a long way for a lot of that series, but we hung in there.
I think the umpiring was the least of Australia's concerns in all honesty.

No it didnt, the LBW decision turned down before that cost England a bigger win.

Billy Bowden and Alim Daar cost us the ashes, but hey it should be said we get a fair run from the umpires in Australia so we have to be good enough to beat the opposition and the umpires as a touring side.
