Not a bad idea, with Gosford and Wyong not really blessed with massive 2s numbers either not as many blokes will miss out on a game as you may think and would also provide a stronger side.
As for the restructuring of the comp, I would expect it to be re-structured in a similar fashion to the Sydney comp where they have just gone to 5 divisions of 10 teams (or something similar to that anyway).
I would think that we might go to three 6 team competitions with the seniors being the top 6 of this year, 2nd div being the bottom 3 first grade of 2008 with the top 3 reserves of 2009 and the rest making up 3rd div. Should provide much closer results and better footy for all concerned with either a 15 or 20 round comp. Logistically it may be hard to work but im sure something can be sorted out around 18s and the 2nd side of each club.
May also open up more naming rights sponsorship potential and closer games will bring a bigger interest to the comp.
Hopefully with players playing more competitive games over time the number of sides in each grade can be increased as more junior players come through the ranks.

blah blah blah blah. That is all I here when your posts on this board... Seriously pal who gives a toss?

Big meeting Wednesday night regarding the state of the competition. I wonder if the board have seen the ideas of a three tier comp similar to the idea previously posted.

What the clubs need to be very aware of is that a 3 tier competition will almost certainly mean teams will play apart from each other on many weekends. Experience from a couple of seasons ago shows that this places enormous strain on club resources as it means two strappers, at least one extra runner etc etc. It also tends to result in forfeits later in the year when one of the teams may be out of the hunt and all numbers are required on deck for the clubs side that may still be in contention.

Its an idea that is probably three or four years too early for this competition.

Good to see a Terrigal fella out representing his club saturday after the soccer. Proudly wearing his Terrigal Jersey blind rotten drunk and stumbling up the main street of Gosford.

this is the first io have heard of a 3 tire comp does anyone know what it is etc?

well i think wensday nights meeting should be a firery affair with the contents of its true purpose becoming clear 6 strong teams or one strong comp what do u think is better?

if this 3 tier comp is agred i really hope they dont do it for 2009 i hope they plan it for 2010 so every club will know whay exactly is happening then...not just rush it in for season 2009

Wouldnt the same happen with 10 reserve and 8 senior clubs?
I reckon you could get a draw where most clubs play at same ground for 13 out of 15 rounds or if each team had a 3 byes in 18 round comp you could make it 15 out of 15

Wouldnt the comps be closer so less chance of forfiets? 4 out of 6 teams eligble for finals?

I am not involved with the league but it seems to have a lot of merit?

What do the wyong , lake maqu guys think?

well i can tell you wyong thinks its f*#ked that could even be considered without club consultation first ,we didnt put in years of hard work to get back in the top grade to be kicked out or demoted without cause this will only make a slighty more even first grade comp more even and the other 2 div more lop sided how can u exspect to retain top players if u dont play in the top grade i think this meeting will be over once these points have been realized by the board and common sense not to change the entire comp months b4 the comp starts what does everyone else think i think lake maq would have similar point being in the same position

Based on results over the last two years edey, do you really think you deserve to play in firsts???

Seriously?

absolutely this comp is driven by success after all even under this system only 4 teams can win firsts anyway this will only make clubs like us weaker at attracting players and sponsors, the ideal of the comp is promote the game not rape smaller clubs of what they have earned

ok, its pretty easy to jump on and bag wyong but the reality it while we didn't perform to the same high standard of other clubs we only finished 2 wins behind Terrigal and Gosford, the reason we were promoted back into 1st grade was that we had won 2 res grade premierships in a row. it was always going to be a long road back and that hasn't changed. If this decision is made the club will be taken back 5 years and may not survive this time. If everyone is comfortably with this decision so be it. But, i have seen posts on here about not losing any more clubs and i believe that this format will probably bring a couple of clubs close to that. Yes i am looking at this from a Wyong point of view but does anyone want to play in a comp that drops a club every couple of years??

the key in that is that we do have a bit of talent coming through but we would potentially lose some of that talent if we are not playing in the top grade. that is the main concern for me at this stage. i truly believe the club will turn a corner in '09 and it would be a shame for that chance to be wasted

You have to remember all this is speculation on a website- the board may have in mind other ideas. I think the 3 x 6 teams system would still have woy woy with a team - and if lake Maq or wyong are the 7th best team they would get to go up a grade after winning a premiership - all be it a 2nd grade one - and their reserve side may be competitive in a 3rd grade- when was the last time this was the case?-
Also the demotion / promotion with a final 4 would keep the comp pretty interesting up until the final rounds- not by round 6 as has been the case the last few years.
Not bagging Wyong or Lake Maqu but i would think most players would like to think they have a chance at the start of the season of finishing in the finals- i dont think thats the case at Wyong or Lake Maq perhaps even Gosford.

Edey, what you are saying is true. I guess that Nellie Bay and Singo are not in a position to field 2 senior teams and would only look at 1 team each in reserves which will help them stay viable and build to 2 teams in 1 to 2 years.

Reading the football posts (sifting out the rubbish) I got the impression the league had worked this out with not only NB & Singo but had spoke to Wyong and Lake Mac who want to be dropped to help build over the next few years.

Tomorrow night should certainly be interesting at Morriset if no consultation with these 4 teams has happened.

i think the league just needs to be patient the afl didnt kick freo out of the afl becauase there were under performing for many years till as of late making finals seris, wwyong back in for our 5th year in first with many exsperianced players retitiring after securig us reseres success and a year or 2 of firsts, then younger players who had some taste for senoir footy no doubt if we just tweak the comp slightly the entire comp will be a great even spread within 5 years hopefully nelson and singo could be in first in the next years or 2 so then it becomes a waiting game till everyone is on a similar level

Can you elaborate on the tweaking you suggest edey?

well what i mean is consultate every club in the black diamond and maybe try and that put in a reveved points system what was floated a while ago where every player has a points on if there are a junior of the club or from interstate or another bd club etc i think this will help clubs such as singo and nelson retain players but thats just one suggestion im sure are less drastic ways of making the comp more even on the score board

IF the BDAFL Board tonight announces the changes that Deitzy originally flagged about a 3 tier 6 team competition it will just be a further example of how the BDAFL is law unto its own. There has been no consultation with the clubs on whatever the big change is tonight and that is a ridiculous way to do business. Despite what a lot of footy heads might think, dictatorships don't survive in the long term.

The BDAFL needs to understand that the clubs are its clients and should be consulted and involved in major decisions.
