That was an interesting game vs SF to say the least.
On disposal count, inside 50s & scoring shots we should have been beaten by 10+ goals but somehow we found ourselves in front in red time of the last qtr only to then miss 2 more chances to steal it before SF took it the length of the ground and somehow Suban was left in the corridor all on his own who then duly pinpointed Shaw in the goal square 50m+ away who then went back and kicked the winner. Still it was showing as only the 25min mark so would think at least 4 or 5 minutes of play left to get it back but the siren went seconds late after the bounce which was pretty bizarre as a number of goals were kicked in the last qtr????
A good sign was despite hardly being able to get the footy we were able to hang in there enough that when an opportunity presented we could pinch a lead but unfortunately unable to hold it.
Good win by the Colts and Reserves teams earlier who sowed up Top & 2nd place respectively with a few of the Colts boys missing as playing for WA on the same day would you believe yet again......
Next week we take on Claremont at Claremont Oval in what should be another tough challenge.

Well that wasnt quite the side I had envisaged we would have take the park last week as a number of sore and injured boys were not selected against Claremont.
By my reckoning 12 of our best 25 were missing so not a bad effort to take it up to Claremont on their home deck for 3 of the 4 qtrs with just an ordinary 3rd qtr pretty much the difference in the end.
Some good signs from some of the younger players who took their opportunity including debutant Jehb O'Donoghue who looked at home down back against the star studded Tigers.
Also congrats to Jesse Turner on his 100th game, a great story of a local lad who has worked very hard on his game.

Great game in the Colts with Swans coming from 4 goals down in the last qtr to win in a great finish and sets up a tantalising Finals series.

Best of luck to all 3 grades in the upcoming Finals.
The League side play WP up at Joondalup in which will prove a difficult assignment especially if we allow the likes of Black & Nelson to have their usual plethora of disposals against us to feed their dangerous forwards of Keitel, Knott and former Swan Riddoch.
The Ressies will play Perth in the Qualifying Final.
The Colts have the week off after finishing on top.

Fingers crossed for all 3 sides.

Well that was a tough loss to take.
Lead for most of the first 3 qtrs then came the predictable WP comeback when they surged to a 3 goal lead early in the last before we fought back again to regain the lead and ascendancy just going into red time of the last qtr before unfortunately Frank Anderson did his knee which then required a stretcher and all momentum was lost as WP could regain their composure and take the lead back again in a heart breaking finish made even worse with Frank (who was close to our best player yesterday and for most of the season) probably going to be out of action for 12 months.
It was also the last confirmed game for 2 loyal servants in Matt Riggio (217 SD games 2010-2021, 2 Swan Medals, SD Premiership & WA State player) and Alex Howard (174 games 2011-21) and we thank them both for their fine service over the last decade or more.
Tony Notte and Lewis Jetta may also call time on their careers but hopefully still have the desire to go on for another year.
Some definite positives to take out of not just this season but we cant rest on our laurels and expect it all to happen again next year as the established top 4 of SU, SF, CL & WP are not going away any time soon whilst the likes of EF, EP, Peel etc will no doubt be improved again and hungry for our spot.
But we must keep our core group of players together with a sprinkle of new faces to take those who are moving on and have carried a lot of the team in previous ordinary seasons.

The Ressies also went down in a close one after leading by 16 points at 3 qtr time but with Perth kicking with a stiff breeze and Swans losing 3 players to injury we couldnt quite hold on and Perth finished too strongly.
They now play Subi in the Ressies cut throat 1st Semi whilst the Colts boys take on Claremont in the 2nd Semi this weekend.

And finally the Colts end 2021 on a high with a 8 point win vs Claremont at Optus Stadium in the GF.
As with most SD vs CL Colts clashes it was another tightly contested affair in which all 4 games played between the 2 teams this season were all under 10 point margins with SD coming out with a 3-1 record the only hiccup being the 2nd Semi loss at Claremont Oval (despite SD finishing 4 games on top mind you) when Van Rooyen ripped the game apart in the last 10 minutes with 3 goals to win it for the Tigers.
It was easily the most entertaining of the 3 GF's played on the day with end to end fast ball movement and no defensive minded garbage like the seinors.
Metcalf coming back in after being suspended in the last H&A clash proved crucial with his 3 goals. Bailey Jenkin won the Mel Whinnen Medal for best on ground.
Also well done to Perth's Reserves teams win in their GF and to former SD player Matt Rogers on a great career at both clubs.

Another close game and yet another close loss for SD in Rd1.
Hit the front at the 25min mark of the last qtr and similar to the last few years we coughed up a goal straight away after losing the centre clearance and the opposition goal.
If Swans ever want to be this Top 3 side they aspire too then dropping games when you hit the front late has to be stamped out immediately.
This week we play EF at Basso who were very good against the Fremantle Reserves side last week.

Not much love on the forum this year for the Black Ducks.
Crowds have been pretty disappointing - not sure if it's because all games are being live streamed, lack of marketing or an ageing supporter base finding it harder to get to games.
Budgets hard to come by for 50% of games (Rose Garden gates) so hard to know who's who - especially when players get promoted due to COVID etc.
Tight season and big game this week against the Garlic Munchers.
Get down to the next few home games as I can't see many at the back end of the season - we've had a good run of home games.

Matt I think every club has had a drop off in attendances this season.
Covid no doubt has played a part in that but definitely being able to watch the live stream would be another factor.
Still for me you cant beat being at the game live and especially at Basso when the boys are up and about, there is nothing comparable to it by way of atmosphere, in the WAFL these days sadly!

I am in the latter stages of writing a book about the old AFC Night Series from 1979-1986 and need some assistance with some missing records for the section which will include an A-Z list of players who played in the competition.

Can anyone assist with the local club that the following players were recruited from:

Peter Carter 1981
Steve Davis 1982
Tim Hughes 1982
Scott Meadows 1985
Denis O’Rourke 1982
