Wellers didn't play badly, it is pretty hard to find a player who didn't have a good run tonight. Maybe Sharrod was in the bottom 5, but it was so hard to split them at this point. For me I'd probably take JA out and bring in Medders, replace Goldy with Maxwell, and keep everything more or less the same. Blair was more than adequate, he was so hard at it you'd mistake him for Luke Ball. Thrilled.

I just wish Leon would nail some bananas.

I guess a more worthwhile question would be;

Will Jarryd Blair be on our senior list in 2011?

On tonights performance, and with the players we know are "gone" at years end, I'd say yes at the moment, if he can continue his form in the VFL and with the odd AFL game, then yes for sure.

Good comment.

Have seen JB in the 2s and felt he should get his chance. As mentioned, I missed last night's game but from the posts here, the guy has clearly shown a bit at the level and will be around for a year or 2 more at very least. I guess O'Bree's impending retirement creates a clear vacancy.

Note to OP:

Get a new wife.

Have done better...have got myself a 5yo son who, since joining Auskick, has become football (and Collingwood in particular) crazy. It's an excuse to go and we're now both members. I understand Heater and Dids live nearby and so am hoping to bump into them at some point with the little guy. Should cement the relationship...I showed him some Youtube and he just loves "Alan".

I thought he did well but someone will have to make way for sidebottom...
that would be blair just about time for malty to play the team that will be there for september , we can leave the romantic first gamer stories for the tiges. Were almost there, time for the pies to put past wrongs right..:thumbsu:

I think he will get a spot on the senior list.
Also think Reed and Keeffe will too.

I'm assuming Cook, Buckley, Corrie, O'Bree, Tarks, Presti (R?) and Rusling might not be around next year.

Pretty sure he's the same height as Brent Harvey. Which is the same height as me. Which, yes, is midget category, but he has great hands in close and is a good tackler. Certainly showed more than guys like Cook, Stanley, Nicholls, Iles etc.

Harsh on Stanley, I bet he would have loved a debut against the likely wooden spooners in a 15 goal win, and some time in the midfield.

My recollection of his debut, was it was QB and he was put on Russel Robertson!

You, sir, are correct.

Blair was decent though. He lost the plot a bit running inside 50 and into 3 defenders with about 4:40 to go in the... 2nd (?). Just before Jolly took them on and kicked a goal anyway. That was the only really VFL-ish play for the day, otherwise was good.

I think you'll find I was a massive fan of Stanleys and agree that he was mishandled, but he never truly stepped up in the AFL. Pretty sure Stanley played at HF a couple of times (Blair started in the forward line last night before moving on to tag Priddis). 'S All I'm sayin' is all.

Did not see the game but have seen that bit of play 3 times today due to Jolly kicking that goal. The pleasing part was that despite running himself into trouble he still had prescence of mind to get the handball off cleanly.

Also loved Maxwell describing him on radio pre-game as 'aardvark-like'!

Stanley is with GC now isn't he? I didn't know much about him but either the coaches didn't like him or they saw something to decide that he wasn't upto scratch at AFL level. It'll be interesting to see how he goes at GC (if he is actually there). Whilst I think we are second to none in recruiting and developing young players (ruckmen aside perhaps), we aren't infallible. Liam Jurrah spent time with us, if my memory serves me correctly. He looks handy...

I thought he had a pretty reasonable debut. I'd keep him in the side for next week for the game against Port. I don't think he'll be in the side at the business end of the season, but he'll be on our list next year I'd say.

Agree!

Good first effort and I was impressed because he had clean hands and did'nt have the jitters from being nervous. I noticed some deep breathing in the warmup. Give him 110% for his 1st game.

16 touches and half of them were contested. What more can you ask from a first gamer, he is hard at it and has decent disposal. Having him in the side is much better then having Obree in.

Reasonable debut, but really struggled in space both ways, and unless Ball's injured he won't offer more than a Sidebottom or a Macaffer or a Medhurst.

Worth senior listing though, considering the upcoming drafts.

Seemed comfortable in traffic , those saying stanley didnt get a fair go are clutching at straws, stanleys awareness and composure at AFL level is what cost him. Blair is streets ahead of him in that department. He never looked out of his depth

Played a reasonable game.

He's going to add some depth to the squad no doubt.

Doesn't offer as much as other players that are to come back.

I wouldn't think he has a great deal of improvement in him, but he's around the mark.

I will say that if he doesn't make a go of it at Collingwood due to our list, then he'll definitely find himself at another AFL club.

I've been a fan.
I think he is 'genuine' depth , because he is not fatally flawed like other guys hanging onto our list , nor is he on his last legs.
I think he should be regarded as Luke Ball's understudy atm , and be considered if the conditions and match-ups suit.
