Blake or Mumford

Seems like Blake might be a chance to go as he hasn't re-signed yet.

There's also a lot of hullabaloo over on the drafts board re a possible offer from Sydney for the Mummy.

Having said that, if there's the prospect we only keep 1, who would you prefer and why?

(I hope we keep both btw:thumbsu:)

I'd keep Mummy. Blake doesn't put in those second efforts and his decision-making isn't great when he gets the ball outside of the ruck. From what I've heard Mumford hasn't even had a proper preseason so he has lots more potential and room to improve.

You can't answer this question in a vacuum. The answer will depend on:

1) How much you have to offer either of them to stay (ie. how much of the salary cap they will be taking up?); and
2) What other clubs would be willing to part with to get either of them from us

i voted 4 mummy due to the more cash we would have to pay blake. atm i think blake is a better ruckman, proved by gf performance

If we are to match Sydneys offer to Mumford (900k over three seasons) then Blake may well be cheaper, or about as much.

Still, i want Mumford as he will be the better ruckmen and overall footballer by A LONG WAY in the near future.

what level draft pick would you put on both if traded - taking into account the salary cap issues?

Blake - 25

Mumford - 15-20 (if a club sees incredible potential in him), 25-35 (if they're in need of a ruckman but don't think he will improve much more)

Mumfords value would vary a little depending on what clubs think they can get out of him i'd imagine anyway...

just my2c

I would keep Mumford if I was Neil Balme and the Geelong Football Club. The Mummy can play in the ruck; Centre Half Back or drop into the backline to perform a job on a tall forward (3rd best tall forward option).

Blake is a one dimensional player who can only play in one position. He does not have another dimension to his game (just like Brad Ottens, Paddy Ryder and Michael Gardiner) to punish the opposition on the scoreboard.

mummy is gone if jolly moves

sydney offering the collingwood first round pick for him

collingwood 2nd pick for wojo

tenace will be ok if wojo goes

port are mumbling, but might offer 9 for the mummy, but not offering as much $$$$ to mummy

balme should have contracted him during the year when eagn was gone
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

massive loss

mumford's already peter street's ahead of blake. seriously, do the right thing, chop blake now while he has SOME value. he won't improve, surely. mumford will, over the next 2-3. reminds me of jolly circa 01-03 IMO.

Seriously, are the cats really going to give Collingwood a good ruckman and a skilful speedy backman? That would be a very, very bad trade for us and would (not could) come back to bite us

Mummy, and I'm pretty sure if we're all feeling this way, the club would know the answer as well.

He's a year younger, far more raw in AFL experience but plays the game with a greater hunger.

Better skills, chaser, tackler, competitor.

I hope you're joking - would hate to see Wojak in b&w while Blackjack stays.

nope all to do with how much cash they want
ie need to take a pay cut to stay

stokes took a reduced package

blake and mummy is to be played out, blake would need to accept 50% less to get contract at this point in time, but that is not too bad for a second ruck at best
mummy is asking for 400% more min, possibly 500% , given he was paid crap

wojo would need to drop pay to stay

Blake's the better ruckmen now and no way should we let him go IMO. As much as I throw crap his way, he's still the best in hitouts at our club. It's true he's useless around the ground in every other aspect, but surely we can cover that deficiency. We have people who can provide run, be the tall targets, etc. etc. but if Blake goes, who's going to win the hitouts?

I would be reluctant to let Mummy go until we give him another year to show us what he can do. But salary cap issues may not give us that one year. Damn it sucks to win premierships sometimes. (Ok, not really. :D)

totally agree
as next year he could head off to gc for 600k, as they have more money than the swans

would really like to see him develop, and have a full pre-season

you might find however, he does not want to go to sydney, as geelong is like a home

anyways heres hoping

as for wojo i think he is gone
the old man will be in his head
and he will get good coin elsewhere
as at gfc he will be on 40% less

and, he would not be a walk up start with hunt back
really depends on what they do with the harley slot, and what they are looking for in his possie

I think we should be keeping Mumford as he has a lot more upside than Blake, just think this is about as good as Mark is going to get and Shane with a proper pre season under his belt could very well be our number one ruckman next year allowing Ottens more time to work in the forward 50 then have a run on the ball while the Mummy catches his breath on the bench

Balme said yesterday that he was still confident we could keep the group together including both Blake and Mumford. Lemme find the quote...

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...s-as-they-happen/story-e6frf9jf-1225782861941
3.17pm: GEELONG football manager Neil Balme said several clubs had shown interest in young ruckman Shane Mumford.
Balme said the Cats were confident it could keep all its premiership players and not lose either Mark Blake or Mumford, but they may not know for sure until the end of the week.

Not sure if he is just being optimistic but i like to think he is being realistic :s
