what about the bomb at the police station? this retired policeman may advice them on show topics/stoires but they will do a story regardless of how far fetched it is, if they think it will rate they will go ahead with the bullshiit story line just for ratings.

What's so far fetched about a bomb at a police station ?
Have you heard of the Russell Street bombing in Melbourne about 15-20 years ago ?

you twats. Its television, escapism. Sometimes you knuckleheads go a bit too far. The show was not my cup of tea but they did do a few good things like when they showed a live version of blue heelers.

Still I think it ran a bit too long.

I'm guessing rhino doesn't watch The Bill. They've blown up the cop shop twice in the last 2 years.

I haven't watched Blue Hillbillies for 4 or 5 years. It is still better than most crap Australian drama the has been on in the last few years.

I don't think I watched more than about three episodes in 12 years, it wasn't my cuppa coffee, but I've seen a heck of a lot worse.
I suppose they'll put some Seppo "sitcom" in it's place.

Oh the heart bleeds.

Good riddance. All episodes in the Seven warehouse should be tossed into a pit and incinerated purely for the sin of giving the world that big nosed media whore Lisa McCune.

That Headland show is the worse piece of crap made in Australia. Couldn't they find actors who could act and it is so pathetic, it really is embarrassing. I email channel 7 to complain but they never answered back. I guess they were too embarrassed.

I wonder how many people that couldn't find it in themselves to stretch belief a little like sci-fi or fantasy or horror movies. Of course, these are all much more realistic.

Blue Heelers was always a favourite in my house. I stopped watching it regularly a few years ago, but the rest of my family enjoyed it so I still saw at least some of most episodes. If anything, the production, writing and acting were better recently than they had ever been.

Another Aussie drama bites the dust. That leaves McLeod's Daughters and All-Saints as the only free-to-air Australian dramas. I won't grace Home and Away, Neighbours or HeadLand with that title (although I don't have any time for McLeod's or AS, they are both far above the half-hour soapies).

Great show in it's heyday in 1996-1997 when it was competing for the number one rank regularly, when Lisa, Martin Sacks, Tasma and Damian were all on the show. It has really deterioated since the first of that bunch left, with ridiculous storylines and relatively frequent changes of actors.

UNIT, for once in your life...SHUT THE ******** UP!

In your opinion, everyone in the media is a "media whore". As soon as someone becomes successful they are automatically dubbed a "media whore". Have you ever thought for one second that Lisa makes her living from being on TV, just like you make a living from getting your Centrelink payment every week. If someone is a media personality, how the ******** do you expect them to make a living if they arent on TV?

And for those who say "too much crime in Mt Thomas"...how the ******** do you expect them to make a show. The whole ********ing show was based around the local police solving crimes. If they were to make it realistic and only give us one crime every few weeks, that would make some riveting TV wouldnt it?

I swear, do any of you have any ********ing brains at all or has spending your entire life on BigFooty fried it?

Oh no. They have to have had at least 7 New idea/Womans Day covers over an 18 month period to earn that title. Lisa McCune wins that title in a canter.

Before Bec there was Delta. Before Delta there was Georgie Parker. Before Georgie Parker there was Lisa McCune...........

It is all about frames of reference. You have a show that trys to show "real" scenarios - it has to stick to 'real" situations.

You couldnt have little green men drop down and kidnap someone in BH becuase it breaks the suspension of disbelief. In sci-fi you have a much broader scope to play with.

"aussie drama"? It is a bloody soapie. It aint a cop show. The old Bill used to be good, the newer eps are crapola.

****************s who are happy that it has been axed, get a ********ing life, so what if you dont like it nobody forces you to watch but a lot of people like BH, myself included, and who cares if it is unrealistic it is TV and the fact that it has been axed is a disgrace because it routinely makes the top 20 in ratings each week and going br Headlands figures that should be screening at about 11.30pm

whats the difference between us being happy and expressing that its been axed compared to you being ******** off?

I think it is far more logical to blame this axing on the AFL rights deal than on deadLoss...
$400,000 an episode x 13/22 = $5.2million or $8.8Million

AFL $130Million a year

You do the maths

They did make 10 more episodes to bring it in line with Homicides record of drama episodes made

510 each

I guess the question has to be asked, what difference does it make to your life if it exists? As opposed to the difference it makes to those who enjoy watching new episodes who now can't.

are you stupid or something, nobody forces you to watch the show do they, so you dont need to be going, good its about time because it sucked even though you said you have never watched

AFL killed Blue Heelers; what other 7 shows are next?

If AFL is set to kill 7s best drama series, and perhaps other costly 7 productions, how can the network expect to surpass 9..???

Blue Heelers killed, and AFL is main suspect

January 14, 2006

One of Australia's longest running TV shows, Blue Heelers, has come to an end.

After 12 years, 510 episodes and 24 Logie Awards, the long-running drama Blue Heelers has been axed.

Describing the venerable cop show as "an institution'' Seven programmer Tim Worner confirmed the once top-rating show would end this year with its 510th episode.

Though sources at Seven insist there is no connection, the announcement comes only days after Seven, with Ten, announced a $780 million deal to broadcast the AFL for five years from 2007.

Speculation is rife that Blue Heelers is the first casualty of the deal, and that Headland, Seven's new drama which is still struggling to find an audience, may be next.

In 2005, Blue Heelers attracted an average weekly audience of 1.2 million people, down from its peak of 2.5 million viewers during its heyday.

While the shadow of cancellation loomed over it for the better part of a year, it won a reprieve from the axe late in 2005 in the hope its audience decline could be stemmed. A second reprieve was not forthcoming.

Production of the 510th and final episode was completed on December 20, 2005.

At the time, doubt over the show's future prompted the producers to shoot two endings to the episode. A finale which wraps up the show's storylines and signs off the show's record 12 year run will now be used.

"Even the greatest batsmen eventually get out, but what a great innings,'' Hal McElroy, who created the series with writer Tony Morphett, said yesterday.

"The show has trained hundreds of actors, writers, directors and crew. It's a terrific achievement for all of them, they should all be proud of it.''

Morphett added it was ``a sad day, obviously, but what an extraordinary run we've had.''

Bowing out with 510 hours in the can, Blue Heelers now equals the 510 episode run of the 1960s Channel Seven police series Homicide.

As news of the show's cancellation filtered through the TV industry yesterday, it was met with a mixture of resignation, sadness and pride.

The series launched many careers, "including mine,'' says actor Lisa McCune, who played its doe-eyed heroine, rookie cop Maggie Doyle for six years. The series alumni include William McInnes, Tasma Walton and Grant Bowler.

"While everone is sad, we should look back at it and remember it and celebrate it for all the amazing things it achieved,'' McCune said.

In some ways cancellation was inevitable, said former star Martin Sacks.
