I would love to be wrong and you be right Eiffel....my only thought is that sometimes you need to give up something good to get something better....

Just a fyi. Cunners signed a contract extension only a few months ago for 3 years (surprisingly) meaning if we trade him, any club would have to pay him the same or more, otherwise we will be picking up the tab.

I get your sentiment in bringing up the idea, but i would like to think we are a club who offers 3 year deals to players, only to trade them.

Like pick 6 and the money Prestia wanted was too much

I have no idea why you are raising another player in this discussion especially a pure midfielder vs a forward but I’ll bite for now. A pure midfielder who gets 30+ possessions for pick 6 vs a forward who averages what 1 to 2 goals a game for pick 8 and you want me to answer that? :$

Here we go....this may throw in a curly one from left field. Swans possibly looking to our future 1st to help acquire their academy kids....Braeden Campbell and Errol Gulden starring for their respective teams....

I bring it up because the same thing was said on here about Prestia “not being worth” the early pick and the money he wanted when we were after him

If all they need is points, then maybe the better option is to give them a massive pile of picks in the 40's.

Would much rather it was traded for an established, mature midfielder.

Like Richmond did trading pick 6 for Prestia (they also kind of got Caddy as part of the deal). They were criticised at the time but has turned out to be a master-stroke.

Not sure the obsession with trading valuable assets for another talented, but young and unproven kid...we have plenty of those already. Especially in midfield. We need established midfielders and we need them now.

Sure it would be nice to have him, but since we only get 1 x 1st round draft picks a year, it has to be used for a proven mature player.

I remember there was plenty of criticism here, in regards to the trade, most thinking it was too much. The meatball was and still is, a very good player.

FWIW I would be very happy this trade period with Betts, Butler and a very good strong midfielder.
Martin and Papley would be the bonus I feel.
All our main components would already be in the team.
It'll be up to the coaches to realize the potential from there.

how is papley deal related to daniher? we give them pick 8 and whatever else and they do whatever they want.

Why trade a player who is young, contracted and finished 4th in your bandf?
The trades were linked, as Sydney would need currency to facilitate a deal for JD and they have publicly stated pick 4 is off the table.

Contracted or not, Am I the only one in this world that thinks pick 8 is too much for Papley?

Not really, but its not far off. What would you be happy to pay? Pick 10, 12, 15?
Does what you think he's worth or what we should pay, change due to him being contracted?

If it happens and Tom plays 150 games for the Blues, will you look back and give a crap if we pay pick 8 rather than 15?

I would hate to miss out on a good player due to haggling over what is effectively a few places in the draft order.

agree but if the rumour that he wants to return to melb is true then why keep him...why not try and get a deal done. if a player wants to leave best to make it happen imo.
