Aaaaarrrrrrrrh, what am I missing? Why haven't any of these journo's, commenting on CFC GCS and Martin, discussed the seemingly real possibility of GCS getting sfa if they fail to precure a trade; because of Blues advantageous selection position in PSD?

We can’t expect too much from the journos and footy talking heads.

  • We obsess about Carlton, think about Carlton’s position and look for opportunities for Carlton to do well. They’re trying to cover all teams and therefore usually do it superficially.
  • The media guys usually have multiple gigs and have to cover so many stories they don’t spend longer than a few seconds on any one topic. Certainly not enough to actually explore details and nuances.
  • Many of them just aren’t that bright. They wouldn’t even know what “nuances” means. There are very few who actually understand statistics, for instance.
  • Half the numpties that call in are putting forward moronic ideas that favour their club enormously or they’ve been spreadsheeting for 6 weeks, so the media guys don’t even engage.

In short, you’re more likely to find smart people with good ideas on here than any AFL endorsed radio, TV or media. And we’re still collectively a pretty “mixed bag”! :)

Excellent post Faz; am feeling better after reading it. :)

If Papley has left Sydney to follow his girlfriend and won’t be returning under any circumstances, I cannot see how they don’t trade. If they decide to hold him to his contract and worse case, he decides to not play footy, then there will be huge repercussions for Sydney with other future deals. Proviso is that he has left the state with no return. There must no indecision from him and Sydney must hold no doubts.

Love the last paragraph SB.

I find Sam Maclure and Nick Del Santo interesting to listen to. Del Santo really takes his time and works through the conclusions that Maclure has drawn (especially on other clubs who I have no clues about).

Today the conclusion I drew is that its Essendon spin that they don’t want to trade Daniher given they won’t offer an extension and he’s an RFA in 2020. So next year they could end up with only one 1st round draft pick (best case) or nothing if he’s untradeable through injury issues.
