there's being tough and then there's just being a dickhead.

Also notice SOS is always very careful with his words to be respectful of the other clubs, whereas cochrane had no problem giving us a backhander publicly. Tool.

He is an absolute disgrace. The AFL have created this situation by gifting Foldcoast more picks.

Feel sorry for any player trying to leave that basket case going forward.

Tin foil hat time.

AFL are actually helping carlton.

AFL gives GC picks dependant on giving Carlton a player for free.

End result. AFL has helped 2 clubs near bottom of ladder.

LOL - not by design, but the AFL will take the credit :drunk:

But what if Melbourne carry out the threat to pick Martin before us in the PSD.......apparently bloody David Schwarz has been saying on radio all afternoon that Martin is gone bluebaggers because the Dees are waiting to pounce!!!
The problem for them is he doesn’t want to play there. More importantly we have a secret weapon, one Edward Betts who will be in his young protege’s ear.

When Bennell was stuffing up on GC - Marlion Pickett was in jail.

FWIW - Pickett did OK on GF day.

Seems Bennell is now a father and is turning his life around.

May be worth a little investment.

Don’t write him off just yet.
Oh well that is good to hear. Hope he makes a good recovery. Talented.

I'm not keen on splitting picks just pick best available player at 9 we don't need multiple 18 yr olds that may turn out to be duds

Why wouldn't we just use pick 9 and go best available? We have hit the draft for consecutive years and traded in youth. Time to draft for the cream that'll push a current starter into the VFL within a year or 2.

Hypothetically, there could be very little splitting who is 'best available' #9, and who is at whatever pick we slide to. Alternatively, given how clubs will rate players differently, it might be exactly the same kid on our list.

Fat lot of good "taking a stand" will do - they will end up losing the player for zero gain. It's chest beating, and that shit doesn't get you anywhere long term. Need no more evidence than if we pick up Martin for nothing.

also you'll all recall they 'took a stand' with JOM a few years ago...cochrane was talking tough in the media and trade went down to the wire.

Yet players keep leaving. It's about setting up a good environment for players cochrane you moron...what he's doing would only alienate players further.

Players talk...i doubt Jack Martin will have many positive things to say about GC to other players.

Of course, but whats the alternative? We swap 9 for 2x late teens? I doubt the quality stand out players slide that far.

We don't need further depth, and if we hedge our bets on finally getting Papley across next year then we really only should be targeting a potential inside gun mid.

They're welcome to try, if they don't mind bursting their salary cap at the seams on a guy who's made it clear he doesn't want to be there.

Just as an example of a possibility, Geelong may have a player they love and want to move #14 up to #9, so they give us #24 for #57?

Something like that. But if a player we love slides to 9 (eg Caldwell and Stocker last year), I doubt we trade down.

Id rather they swap into the 2020 draft and take those 2 1st rounders into next year’s trade period.

If we can trade our future second for another pick, that might be the way to go.

David Schwarcz must still have a gambling problem making statements like that 😉😂

Unsure if it’s been posted, but Cochrane is infuriating.

Wow.

What an absolutely disgraceful attitude from a club president regarding an uncontracted player who wants to move clubs.

Most clubs would simply be like "He's out of contract and has indicated he wants to move to <insert club> so we'll do our best to broker a deal".

This guy's attitude is the opposite of constructive - he just wants to be inflammatory and disruptive to what is normally a straightforward process - all in the name of some supposed tough-guy "stand" that the club has been told to make.

On top of that, it's a terrible, misguided, nay *clueless* choice of player to make a "stand" on for a first-round pick - Jack has been inconsistent and hasn't anywhere near fulfilled his potential to date. Almost everyone who made comment on his worth, both pre and post trade period, would have agreed that our offer was very fair.

Pathetic - grow up Cochrane.

It's funny that the AFL wanted Gold Coast to put on their big boy pants and look all tough in negotiating with us, but they've actually made them look like a bunch of idiots.

Pretty much. They think they're hot shit and "making a stand", yet all they're doing is making themselves look stupid, showing their players they'll hold them prisoner, and ensuring no club will want to deal with them again.
