I think Sos' plan B was quite obvious...if he couldn't get Papley over the line we take pick 9 to the draft. We don't need to bring players into the club just for the sake of bringing someone in if we don't think they are what we need.

I never expected us to make finals next year, with or without Papley. 2021 has always been the year I'd expect that.

Yep. What if the Club thinks, for example, that Cody Weightman is going to be a better small forward option for CFC than, say, Butler? I'n sure the Club had a plan B, they've known all along that Papley was in the hands of Dodoro, and that GC were being obstinate. They would have discussed at length the question, what do we do if... ? Sounds like Pick 9 is plan B.

Poor pick 9...has there ever been a more unwanted top 10 draft pick? We love you pick 9! (whoever you are!)

If Papley was desperately unhappy at Sydney and it became apparent to Sydney it was a lost cause, would the AFL sign off on him negotiating a buy out with Sydney and becoming a delisted free agent (as Jarryd Lyon's did at this time last year,) and us sending Pick 9 to Sydney in return for a pick in the 3rd or 4th round? Obviously two problems, one is how much will the AFL count in the cap for Sydney and two is will they sign off on a swap of picks that is clearly a 'Veale Deal?' Interesting hypothetical.

I remember fighting for the retention of a certain pick 7 one year when the majority were happy to give it away. If I recall correctly we even had a poster called pick 7 posting that year:D

He can move to Melbourne and sit out of AFL for a year.

Try to get to Carlton next trade period.

I did hear somewhere he was considering quitting footy due to being in Sydney.

Disappointing for him.
His contract though??

Papley extremely upset not being traded to Carlton..
you tell papley I'm extremely upset at papley not being traded to carlton as well - he'll know who it is...……...

No. They would just say if you are that unhappy up there then why did you only nominate one club you peanut.

Interesting : Bailey Rice has been delisted by the Saints. Was rated by many and people were disappointed when he nominated Saints instead of Blues for F/S
He had his chance to play for us.

That was back in my TC days Gab. There was a serious debate over there on what do do. My brother and I were strongly in the do not trade camp, but the debate was heated! As I'm sure it was here too.
