As long as Polson is on our list, as long as we are not certain of getting Papley and Martin and as long as Betts is still turning 34 next year then yes we should’ve still got him imo.
HE

NOMINATED

ST

BLOODY

KILDA!!!

How many more times do we have to go over this Butler stuff....he nominated his club of choice and got there. Why do we think he wanted to come to Carlton??

How do we get Martin with a pick so far down the order? Why wouldn’t he just go elsewhere after this mess ?

He wants to play with Eddie.

In summing everything up:

Papley - Contracted for another 3 years. Sydney wanted much more than pick 9. That’s way overs and SOS and crew didn’t buckle.

Martin - Gold Coast wanted a future 1st and 2nd round pick for an UN-CONTRACTED Martin and pick 15. This is for a bloke who once has had 30 touches and finished off the year in their reserves. Once again SOS and crew didn’t buckle and we will get him for next to nothing in the draft or PSD.

is there a possibility we look at sam gray, harley bennell etc

Who is acting? I couldn't care less.

Papley was not worth #9. Martin was not worth a first rounder. End of story really.

We had fair values in mind and we stuck to them. Everyone talks about how SOS doesn't blink. He didn't.

This is about the club, not people getting their temporary high through trade entertainment.

100% spot on The Old Dark Navy's

Yes - we should have taken Butler 3 days ago as insurance with Papley and Martin still on the boil.

IMHO - just because Martin is indigenous does not make him a small forward!

He is a half forward/wing/half back.

Papley can play the half forward/mid plus small forward.
Bookmark - butler won't be on an AFL list by start of 2023

Today wasn't the best result, but it wasn't the worst either.

We still have options.

I'm interested to see what we trade pick 9 for.

Bring on draft day now. I hope we take best available and not just a small forward because it’s what we need with pick 9
Agree completely. We need to draft a small forward but dime a dozen (betts preseason draft after no-one drafted him). Draft one with a later pick and a another with a rookie spot

By Swans own admission, they did the very same thing that Essendon did, and did so for the very same reason. Both are either as good or as bad as each other as far as these trades were concerned.

"Tom was almost the flipside of the Joe discussion," Swans footy boss Charlie Gardiner said.
"As you know, Tom is an extremely valuable player. He was our leading goalkicker last year and, as a club, we weren't prepared to lose a player of his calibre without being able to replace him.
"Unfortunately, we weren't able to strike a deal that could see us replacing him, so we've held onto Tom...

On the plus side, there is still a role for Cunners next year. Deluca might get to keep his spot on the list too.

I'd say so, considering that as of right now, we have 6 senior-list vacancies, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the plan, draft hand or not. It will be interesting to see how our DFA pursuit turns out.

I'm not too worried about it, although I do wonder why, if Papley was such a good chance to never be available, how we went 10 days without a contingency plan. But Martin, no issue. Annoying that Gold Coast acquired enough AFL largesse to be able to afford to make a stand, but nothing to worry about.

But it does make me wonder (again) why it was so absolutely imperative to pull the trigger on Dale Thomas on day 1 of our post-season. If he was still on our list now (as he should be, plenty of time yet to delist him prior to list lodgement 1, if that was what we wanted at the end of the trade period), he'd be staying there, because he's a more appealing option than most of our remaining avenues to fill those 6 list spots.

Puts hand up as someone involved in commercial negotiations (it’s my job).

I’m happy no deal was going to be done for Papley if demand without Daniher trade was greater than pick 9.

But our key missing piece is a small forward besides a short term fix in Eddie.

My question are we getting a small forward this year that is better than Butler, to take the pressure off Eddie?

if the answer is no I’d be asking serious questions about SOS and Agresta’s strategy.

Also OR is there internal pressure on why we aren’t landing the big fish?

If that happens we need to test it in court.

The AFL don't want restraint of trade murmurings to get going. This whole draft set up is a house of cards. That's why uncontracted players are not forced to stay and why other clubs let them slide to the club they originally nominated.

I'm 75/25 that Martin will get to us if he goes into the PSD.

Hell, Gold Coast may even delist him now that they made their silly point.
