Ah, this always happens, this painful lull of several weeks between the trade period and the Draft. There's not really much to talk about, but we keep the chatter going, kind of awkwardly, until the draft when there will be some fresh topics and real news to discuss, rave and melt over. I don't know why the AFL have to drag it out like this.* The draft should come hard on the heels of the trading - get it over with ffs! Then the clubs can have a few more weeks to work with their full squads before the Christmas break.

* Actually I do know why they do it - to keep footy in the news for as long as possible. I believe it is as pathetic as that. So that deep into cricket season, people are still talking about footy.
That and also they now wait until the VCE exams are over.

Would you of had Castagna leading their goal kicking for small forwards? They had nearly 8 more inside 50's a game, the names are irrelevant

Names are relevant to the question asked for those on our list..?
Who is capable, it’s not something that is just conjured up out of nowhere hence our trade targets.

Just imagine if we had 4 or 5 players doing so...
Look. This is way beyond my counting capabilities. I'll end up with swollen fetlocks ffs.
Let's just assume their will be plenty of goals kicked at our end.
PLENTY!!
And PLENTY stopped at the other end. :carlton: :footy::padlock:

So you would have had Castagna leading their small forwards too?

Predict which small forward will kick most of their goals next year

BTW, the majority of their goals this year came from KPF's and resting mifeilders, not small forwards

We started off this way last year too, before..........disaster.
Goal-kickers kick goals and we haven't anywhere near enough small or mediums who could do so.

We'll want McKay, CCurnow and McGovern to kick 30+, expect it from Betts, 'hope' for it from Murphy and it's all Hail Mary after that.
Cuningham was going at 3 a game. In the practise game followed by the two preseason games. But could only manage 22 disposals and 10 contested for his 0.0. He didn’t play round two but was t mentioned in the injury update so I think it was the Thursday training late out due to training mishap (bruises kidney). He didn’t return till hawks round 6. He then kicked 4 goals in 3 games. Getting a calf injury in round 9 v Collingwood. 13 goals in 7 games including preseason.

This is about the CFC and the question posed. Interested in that & that alone.

“I think any of our non KPF's are a chance of kicking 30 next year -
Who are these players, because I don't know of them?”

It's all hypothetical isn't it?

Betts plays all year, might be him

Lang stays on the park and plays deep forward, could be him

Or you could be delusional like RedBull and think it was Weightman

Again I will ask, which small forward for the Tigers will kick most of their goals?

Not into RFC - irreverent to our forward line.

Betts, yes, the obvious one but the cupboard is pretty bare after that.
Lang; will be lucky to get a look in this year.
DC & Martin, JSOS are my forward possibilities but 30 goals is a big ask.

If we aim for 16 goals a game (not sure what we averaged under DT), that’s almost 12 x 30 goal scorers of which you could deduct maybe 100 goals from “others” being midfielders & cameos.

IIRC we had 4 goals in a game from Newman, Cripps, JSOS. Charlie could be likely to play deeper with bags like the WBD game possible & MM fitter with more output.

Small forwards kicking 30+ goals is elite and rare and not necessarily needed. The way footy is played now with a focus on zoning and team defence it's rare for them to kick much more.

Having small forwards who kick a bit over one goal a game or thereabouts, apply elite forward pressure, have good closing speed and aren't afraid of physicality are where teams are excelling.

We've got guys who fit into that serviceable small forward range quite well and some who have the potential to go up a level.

We're in a position to recruit a really good youngster and to chase mature aged players for the next couple of seasons.

Our biggest problem is keeping our forwards on the park. McKay missed a few games and carried injury a few times, Cuningham missed a lot of footy, Curnow missed a lot of footy, Gibbons was developing and came on later in the year, McGovern had injuries and needed to get fit. I think if we get a consistent season from McKay, Curnow, Cuningham, Betts, McGovern and Martin (if we get him) and our midfield performs then we're going to kick plenty of goals.

Think we can all agree on how much we would love an elite small forward or two in that mix but it's far from a dire situation.

It certainly won't be Butler.

You can't seriously have an expectation of us to average 16 goals per game, can you?

Geelong who finished top of the ladder averaged 13.3 goals a game, Richmond wins the premiership with an average of 12.8.

Under Teague we averaged 11.9

This talk of small forwards, where do you all see Kennedy next year. Has always had an interrupted season and never performed up to expectations but seemed to do well this year when thrown forward. While he isn’t as agile or exciting as a traditional small forward he seemed to be capable of making an impact.

next year is he a best 22 player and where is he playing, forward or midfield?

He performed really well, but I see him as a third forward, as he can mark well, but not chase or pressure.

His behind Curnow, McKay and McGoven and competing with tbe more versatile JSOS

Good depth

IF there is somehow an agreement for Martin to be delisted, for a trade of picks, look for another story to be leaked to divert attention...
I do not think we should do it.
They were the idiots that did not do a sensible trade in the circumstances. If they admit later on they were a bit stupid a de-listing and apology to Martin should do from them. They stopped him training with his new team for a good month by the time he gets to here.
