Totally agree. This smells of CEO wanting to recruit Richmond players and translating his success at selling Richmond gym memberships to all aspects of a football club.

As much I has I detest Richmond, I very seriously doubt there is some kind of conspiracy going on, and Liddle is a Tiger plant send in to create havoc from within..

Would love us to poach Benny Gale from them though (he was a mad Blues fan growing up in Tassie, apparently)

Papley was the clubs A1 trade target and as the previous poster noted - was our primary small forward target which was supposedly reason enough to leave Butler/McDonald feeling burnt by our clubs approach to dealing with them.
We haven't actually heard the clubs version of events regarding Ellis - just a bunch of people constructing their own stories largely around their viewpoint that Ellis isn't good enough similar to your "Bultler, who the fu** is butler, does he sell deck chairs?" nonsense.
Given we had the biggest offers on the table for both Cogs & Shiel, it's evidently not purely based on $$ and other factors play a part.

Fair call regarding other posters A1 comment.

I just don't see how other mangers would be put off by us and I don't think you constructed a good enough argument to back it up.

Our club isn't going to come out and bag the way Ellis/Manager handled it, but join the dots and its quite evident what happened.

Not sure most here were saying Eliis isn't good enough, just not worth the cash that they tried to get out of us.

My butler call is a bit harsh, accept that.

Jack Martin has nominated terms for a long-term, big-money contract, terms that are likely to knock other suitors out of the race and land him at Carlton next year.

The out-of-contract Gold Coast player has demanded a five-year deal – on more than $1 million next year – from any club that is to select him in the draft.

Martin has nominated for the PSD only.

Everything looks as though it has lined up nicely for us to get him for free.

I like Henry, but if Papley is still the goal next year and Cuningham comes on as expected we should be okay for small forwards. Look at a Rioli/Ryan type selection when we are hopefully challenging.

Would rather us trade 9+future 2nd for 10+22 and take best available. One of Robinson/Ash/Serong and Stephens/Schoenberg/Bianco would be a nice haul.

Always find it hard to wrap my head around these contract values.

According to the article linked above:

"A source indicated the total terms are in excess of $3 million for the five years."

What do those "terms" include? Is it $3mil guaranteed, or is a percentage of that tied up in match payments, incentives, some kind of indigenous support funding that I've always assumed exists for indigenous players who work closely with indigenous academies or community groups?

600K a year is above what he's worth at present! I sure hope he produces and doesn't end up another Daisy where we finally see something on the tail-end of his contract.

Daisy came in with a shot ankle, Martin's not rehabbing anything at the moment.

Though I'm sure if Jack got injured in the first few rounds there'd be the usual crowd blaming the list management team for overpaying.

Furthermore - as with free agency, sometimes it's OK to overpay on a contract to secure a player who costs nothing in draft picks or players. If Martin's true value is closer to $500-$550k (which is eminently fair in my view), then we pay an extra $50-$100k to get him for free in the PSD. That seems in keeping with the way FA has evolved.

That's decent coin for Martin.

Melbourne and Gold Coast supporters would be ecstatic that if they dont take him, they'll be making us pay top dollar.

See how stupid this arguement sounds when the shoe is on the other foot!

Not going grizzle at all about a much welcome piece of good news for the footy club today.

Welcome Jack Martin 👍👍👍

Yep. That does my head in.

"We made xyz overpay for so and so! That's a win for us"

No that's not a win for us. It has absolutely no effect on us at all. A win for us would have been so and so picking our club.

Really enjoying the bitterness from other clubs supporters right now (special shout out to that Tiger Peanut Socrates !)

I would feel sorry for Suns fans, except for the fact they are getting an extraordinary generous 'rescue package, so they will be fine.
