Hey Dadda and Jabba (and here you are busy calling me childish :) ) .. I wasn't questioning the reach for Stocker. I am just curious about some posters desire to draft Kemp using a similar rationale. Clearly he is an extremely talented draftee

However, Stocker was ready for AFL this season. I'd be surprised if Kemp was ready to make any impact before 2021

You realise the whole point of the pick swap last year is because we rated stocker a top 6 pick in a super draft? Besides that, an extra year development isn't exclusively meaning game-time. Its being in the AFL system, learning the ropes as well as games. I don't think anyone would expect any of our draftees this year to get game time in 2020. Could do, but its not like last year where we were looking to get AFL games into our draftees. It's a different set of circumstances this year.

Secondly, we wouldn't trade Stocker for your first pick this year which tells you all you need to know about the trade.

We wouldn't trade Stocker for your pick 6 and GWS future first.

There isn't a player on the Crows list under 24 years of age who I would trade for Stocker bar possibly Fogarty, Milera or Doedee. But if Stocker improves on his 2019 game, then I wouldn't even entertain the discussion.

Watch his extended highlights in the Collingwood game and never mention the Stocker trade in a negative light again.

Briefly heard an interview with someone high up from GC on SEN this morning and basically said it's probable that they may take Martin in the PSD when grilled by Tim and Lyon, but the overall tone was they won't.
I didn't hear the interview, but from what I've read below, it sounds like Evans having to tow the company line, but providing a level of commonsense.....he's a pretty good operator.

Brian Waldron had a similar view though on MacSport, that Carlton wasn't really that serious about trading for Martin, and their strategy was to get him through the psd all along. Not sure if that's the case though if we legitimately offered the Suns a 2nd and 3rd round pick, where no-one in the media felt he was worth a 1st rounder....2nd round pick at best.

A Suns poster replying to me re Martin

Our CEO Mark Evans said there's not much point holding onto him now. About to head to work, so i can't get the quote up but i'm sure someone will post it.

Evans on SEN on whether it's realistic that GC could redraft Martin:

“It’s a possibility. Whether it’s probable or not…

“I don’t think that there’s a lot to be gained sometimes by forcing someone to stay against their will.

“But there’s still a conversation to be had and a list management decision to be made before we head into draft.”

Didn’t exactly chase hard but still managed to offer (according to reports) a future 2nd and 3rd. perhaps GCS were playing to hard to get.

An out of contract player who finished the year in their NEAFL side.

The more they talk, the more they'll incriminate themselves.

Would like GCS to make public what their best offer for Martin was and explain why they believed it to be fair value.

Seems that GCS only took their needs into consideration, not anyone else’s.

GCS wanted to get further up the pecking order in the draft and their list management team was just too damn lazy to try to organize some trades to move up the order with what we were offering... basically wanting SOS to do all the leg work.

Stuff them.. we've already seen some trade picks that they could have possibly been the beneficiary of using our 2nd and 3rd as collateral.... but then perhaps other clubs were already so peeved with the rescue package and Mr Loudmouth that they actually wanted them to do some work themselves.

In Young Reid Land, your thoughts would be considered normal.

Thankfully we have someone in charge looking at the big picture, instead of trying to ‘win’ each individual trade to keep their job for one more season.
Why the deflection ..?

Way to miss the point, again

And like your friend above, the point went straight over the top

There was no critique of the decision to take Stocker last year. It was an observation that it seems contradictory that some posters here want to draft Kemp this year

Kemp won’t be available next year. If we want him, we take him this year. Where is the contradiction?

Only difference to Stocker is we have the draft currency already.

1 + 1 = 11 ..?

Go back and read the posts .. this is boring me now

OK .. tbh I don't really GAF .. seems like a little of this to me though

The idiom originated with Thomas More's Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation (1534). It indicates desperation. A drowning man will clutch/grab at anything, even at straws (this is the (older?) usage that means 'dry grass' not drinking straws) in an attempt to save himself.
Sounds a lot like what we have been hearing from Crows people over the last 2 years. Roo, Burton, Pyke, Tex - a lot of desperation and clutching at straws going on! Meanwhile we see an exodus of players and others reportedly desperate to get out.

Being critical of a BF poster having an opinion on a draftee.. this is not the real world, this is an opinion based forum. The bigfooty phantom draft is not real !

You obviously didn't read my post where I stated that last year was a different set of circumstances to this year.

I will type this slowly for you

You take the player you want, as a long term prospect, in the year they are available to be drafted.

If you want a player, either already hold the required draft currency or, go find someone who is willing to trade for it.

Injuries in year one of a 10 year career are a setback, not a reason to pass on someone you want.

You still might need to slow down your typing a bit .

I think the interview was with Mark Evans.
They would not have the salary cap space to re-draft him so it is just lots of hot air coming from them
He also said that Carlton did not chase Martin too intensely to get a deal done. They can get stuffed.
