Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

A yes

Had all the qualities we needed, quick, accurate, clean, young

Betts on the other hand, was always in the decline

Poor list management, but we move on

If we didn't get Betts we wouldn't have Jack Martin or Williams. Recruited him for the culture - other good players will be drawn to that culture. It was the wrong decision in a way but was definitely the right decision.

Congratulations to Austin and the club on not only landing Williams but the execution of the exercise.
Hoping we’ve now got the taste for FA and follow up with Viney.
Saad would be a great addition and as others have posted, Silvagni and our 2nd rounder sounds about right.
That leaves the small forward position to fill.
I’d float O’Brien to Melbourne in exchange for Spargo and I’d enquire about Rosas from GC too ...

Viney, Cripps, Setters and Ed Curnow collectively will have nowhere near the kicking skills as the Hawks quintet you listed...

Whose to say that they will all be in the middle at the same time for 100% of the game, and let's not forget others like Martin, etc, will play cameos

This is more than just footskills based, it is critical to the gameplan improvement

We spend money to have a say in and be part of a club. The players are a critical part of that. And I think its ludicrous that we aren't privy to the salary cap details so that we can adequately critique the clubs management.
I thought we paid memberships because we love the club and wish to support in any way we can, unless you are a corporate jet setter in which case, BF is the last place you’d be.

So many questions ....

I’ll try and condense them, how do you come to the conclusion that Jack is better than players in positions that he doesn’t play, when those players have better form and evidence to suggest that he’s not?

The only player on the list I see as comparable was Gov, who I think off this years form Jack would have covered.

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that bringing Betts in has helped us in other ways than his on field performance.

Sure we may have missed Butler, sure he's a shell of his former self but at the same time... we're not flag contenders yet so having him around for his culture and ability to attract other players to our club is a bonus.

We'll find a small forward end of next year...

That's true, but Betts would have also been able to attract those players if he was in a development/coaching role and or on the rookie list

I know they won't be in there together 100% of the time.

I just have concerns around speed and kicking skills with those 4 as the main quartet.

Does anyone really think Jack Silvagni would be fielding offers from other clubs?

Fringe player in a bottom team then missed the whole year.

If you think someone is offering him a 4 year deal you've got some seriously thick navy blue glasses on. List spots will be like hens teeth.
Yeah but it's norf..

Speed would be a concern, no doubt, but those Hawks players weren't any quicker

It's about balance, adding Williams and Saad counters that lack of pace

Lisfranc isn't in the ankle, that's midfoot and if he had a Lisfranc he'd be doing nothing until it was better. It's not an injury you play through whatsoever.

Can remember a surgeon telling me that rupturing the Lisfranc ligament (on purpose) is the best way to amputate at the level of the midfoot. Was apparently a technique used in previous eras.

The metatarsals just slide off the tarsal bones.

Jack day today.

Re: SOS. Like him but I'm not as big on him as many others are. Footy smarts through the roof but he doesn't have a clear position and I don't think he'll ever be the star many think he may be.

Happy for him to stay but I'm not going to lose any sleep if he decides his future is elsewhere.

Re: Viney. Yes. A thousand times yes. He would be absolutely perfect for us in the middle. I was keen on Wines last year and I'm still keen on Wines this year, but Viney would be even better.

Don't see him leaving Melbourne, but we're reportedly in his ear as we absolutely should be. An offseason of Williams + Viney through free agency would make me a very happy man.

Viney won't help our kicking efficiency issues

On Pixel 2 using BigFooty.com mobile app

What he hopefully does though, is create enough defensive pressure to;
A) create a turnover or win the ball and hand it to someone that does..
B) create a turnover or win the ball in the middle after the opposition have scored, thus halting a momentum shift that killed us in so many games this season.

Yeah but what the Hawks players lacked in speed they made up for with their kicking abilities.

What weapons do Ed Curnow, Viney and Setters have to make up for lack of pace? Crippa has game changing ability but the other 3 don't. Setters might in the future.
