***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

This.

The coach is the biggest driving factor in which players are picked each week, where they play and how they are developed. The fact that Gov continues to play has left a very sour taste in my mouth all year and if Jack leaves, ill be filthy at Teague.

We will see what happens, if Teague doesn’t want to lose him, don’t trade him.

With the club saying they were concerned with a conflict of interest when not renewing SOS contract, the fact one son has been delisted and another supposedly to be traded in the coming weeks, makes the reasoning more clear.

As someone else said, what games did McLovin take from JSOS this year?

Fingers crossed this goes through!

Williams might be in the shadow of the other big names at GWS, but he is close to (if not already) being elite himself. All the ranking points systems (I know they have their issues and are not perfect) rate him highly.

The AFL ranking system has him as the best general defender (non Key position) in the league, and GWS' second best player this year.

And Stats Insiders rankings has him as GWS' 3rd best player this year (after Greene and Haynes), and 27th overall in the AFL.

Champion Data also seems to really like him (can't easily access their stats though).

He was such a big factor last year for GWS in the midfield. Really excited to see what he can bring to us. He's had a few injuries this year, but has played all of 3 of the 4 prior seasons (missed one because of a knee I believe).

I think a lot of the AFL community underrates how big a coup this is for us (especially not having to give up any picks to get him).

Interesting how McClure thinks our offer was significantly more then North’s offer

I'll take a stab that we upped our offer at the 11th hour. We didn't want to miss out on our man yet again.

I have no problem with this. He is costing us zero picks and we have the cap space.

Poor take Arrow. Obviously different circumstances. Directors of public companies salaries are public btw. When you hold a role of importance you shouldn't expect absolute privacy. All salaries are public in the US and its a non issue.

We aren't talking about directors of companies, who are generally entrusted to improve the financial wellbeing of the masses or a role of importance, we are talking about sports people that have a limited career in a chosen field

I have few concerns regards Jack potentially leaving.

No questions asked Kramer Jr would follow him. His room, and most of his wardrobe is a shrine to Jack. I'd hazard a guess I'm not alone on that one...

I believe he makes us a better team. Sets the team standard for effort, unselfish to a fault, and at the level of age/experience where we could expect to see more significant return on investment.

And yeah, of course sentiment is a factor. If bad blood was to drive the son and grandson of a club legend away it would be a blight on all concerned, and a damn shame for supporters.

CLUB

Individual
The club is generally bigger than the individual, But, regardless of what Harker says, a club isn't merely a series of haunted walls ceilings floors grass and cups; leaving aside GCS or GWS , and even Saints, who wouldn't have any friggin idea what a cup is. There are some individuals that embody what a club represents to a class of supporters. It's not about SOS leaving, but rather the way it's come about. For those that think I'm missing the essence of what a club means; remember that CFC recognised this aspect of its identify and made a concerted effort to appeal to a class of supporters on that very basis.

So either 750k or 850k... who cares? There's nobody but Cripps on our list that gets near deserving that money and there's two obvious factors to consider.

We have a heap of cap space to use.
We need quality best 22 players and can afford to pay a premium.

Stinks of the media or certain factions trying to cause unrest with the club
Yup exactly

We spend money to have a say in and be part of a club. The players are a critical part of that. And I think its ludicrous that we aren't privy to the salary cap details so that we can adequately critique the clubs management.

What about McGovern? How much extra sh*t does he cop because people say he's on 800k?

I think that it is player agents that leak info to the press - and probably competing player agents. Not a bad gig really if you are that type of person - they get to 'advise' players on the careers and also (unfortunately) too often advise them on investment 'opportunity' and how to invest their monies.

I’ll be sad if JSOS goes.
We’ve missed his footy smarts, skills and passion this year.

feel like Teague loves McGov too much andJSOS leaving is the cost of this bromance.

Jacks been injured pretty much all year, what has McLovin got to do with it? Get a grip

Honestly who cares what we are paying, we need to pay it now that's how it works, we have banked salary cap and it needs to be spent in the next 2-3 years.
Get the deals done and pay whatever it takes to get the players we need to take us to the top four in the next few years. Cripps, Doc, Martin, Plowman are all over 25. Jones is 30. Weitering, Harry, Charlie will all be over 23 from next season. Guess what.... we are in the premiership window from next year and we have 4-5 years to strike from 2021 onwards. Get the deals done and make sure we never lose Walsh, Weitering, Harry, Cripps or Charlie and everything and everyone else is expendable to get us flags in the next 5-10 years with these 5 key players.

I'm sure the club is aware of the 5 key pillars as I call them and will manage everything else accordingly - do not worry we are ready to pounce.

Do you share your salary information with others, work colleagues, neighbours, strangers?

Could you imagine the trolling/abuse players would cop after a poor game/season
Because they certainly aren't copping any now.

Also if there is rumours of much higher wages, they will just cop grief over that.

What about McGovern? How much extra sh*t does he cop because people say he's on 800k?

And what do you think will happen if it's confirmed and or if it was 700K?

Would you be open to everyone's salary at your work pinned to the lunch room notice board

Seriously, what is wrong with people

What an employee earns is privileged information in any organization - in my businesses the only people who know what anyone is paid is myself and the head of HR - and of course the employee. Privacy is an important factor in any situation requiring mutual respect - it is also bound by regulation these days - although I'm not sure what the situation is with fake businesses like the AFL monopoly and monopsony.

Superior version to Plowman? Wtf. Jesus. Plowman will finish top 5 in our bnf again just quietly.

As everyone should know by now. Not enough love for plowman

This. He makes bad mistakes, but being in defence it's just amplified.

Jones has been just as likely to shank a kick, or make a bad switch. But he takes more spectacular intercept marks so doesn't cop it. (Nor should he) Plowman often plays on quality forwards and beats them.
