Dow is shot at Carlton. We don’t know how to use hm and he can’t muscle his way to a contribution. Let the kid go for some value so he can show what he has and we get a bit back. We have broken the poor boy!

Replace the proper noun in your post with the ex-captain's name and your message would spot on; it's the ex-captain, that you warned me to stop critiquing, who's shot n unable to muscle his way to a contribution. Moreover, he's almost twice this kids age; and presumably likewise developed. We've broken the poor man!

Dow will be fine.

If we could land Williams and Oliver, then getting marchbank and Newman back in the side, we will
Be top 8 💯
Assuming we land Williams....not sure whether Marchbank or Newman would make any difference. Maybe depth or a spot on the bench, but can’t see either breaking into our back 6.

Plow....Jones....Willo
Doc...Weiters....Williams

Can’t believe the amount of dribble I’ve read with posters claiming they don’t want Oliver or Merrett or whoever the flavour of the day might be, Saad included.

Have you all been supporting the same Carlton I have the past 10 years? How on Earth can some people here seriously sit down and think we’re in a position to knock back ANY quality player that is interested in coming to our club. You think Austin and co are going to knock back a 23 year old top 10-15 mid in the comp in Clayton Oliver because some bloke on BigFooty thinks he handballs too often or doesn’t hit enough of his kicks. Now, chances of landing one of these big fish are 1000/1 but you’re having a joke if you’re going to nitpick reasons as to why we shouldn’t take them.

If we were to get extremely lucky and somehow land him, sit back and enjoy watching us have a midfield that is the envy of most of the competition for the next 8+ years in TDK, Cripps, Oliver*, Williams, Walsh, Setterfield (🤞🏼 Dow, Kemp, Stocker etc.)

So, Murph can get a kick and influence while Dow can be a passenger and hope to play. Hope the kid can go but, no signs it can actually happen.

Even if you take Oliver out and replace with Kennedy, SPS, Fisher, Martin, O’Brien and Cuningham - I think it will be awesome. Have faith in the kids and rotate them through....

But for his disposal, typically at pace, Dow,s first and second seasons were impressive. This year the coach obviously sent him back to develop. Surely you can see the potential in the kid. He's a natural mid ball hunter. I think he'll be fine.

your point?

On Oliver and those who think he's the wrong fit because we already have Crippa....

Ports midfield:
Boak, Wines, Rockcliff, SPP, Ebert. That's slow and strong yet they're one of the fastest teams in the comp. The speed comes from elsewhere. Win the ball at the contest and you're always better off.

Even adding Oliver our midfield wouldn't be as big or strong as ports overall and some are worried about balance? Why? Imagine allowing Walsh and Sps to play first receiver out of the stoppage always, never having to get sucked in. We'd be immensely better.
There are many talking as if we are trying to add cream on top of an already slick midfield. We are still trying to build a functioning midfield from the ground up. An Oliver or any All Australian equvelent talent will only be a significant step in the right direction would be my take also.

Agree with most regarding Oliver, if he wants to come you get him. But just how exactly would we have the draft currency to do it. Assuming GWS don't match - Williams comes without a draft pick. Assuming Saad comes that's pick 7 + maybe something extra for two late firsts. One of the late firsts to Saad and that leaves us with a late first in this draft ~18-22 (after academy) and 2021 first. Don't know about you all but dont think that's enough for Oliver...

Spilt 7 and 45 for 15 and 16

16 for Saad

15 and next years first for Oliver, no change

Works for me...

Yeh works for us but 15 in this draft will become around 20. 20 + 2021 1st isn't enough for Oliver probably and knowing Dodo 16 (which again becomes around 20) won't be enough for Saad
